Has anyone been up there this week? What are conditions on the Steep path, frozen?

Morning was so pleasantly sunny, view to Nanos inviting. Though little snow visible, crampons still go into backpack.
In Razdrto temperature well below zero, -7 degrees. Across meadow frozen - patches of ground, patches of packed snow. Continues like that on trail too. But steep path mostly dry. The higher I go, the warmer it gets. At hut 1 degree above zero. Out of forest light southerly refreshes me to top. I go via Plešje, only frozen ground there. Top little snow, nice views.
For descent choose gentle path to see Očak. Gentle one icy in places but mostly dry. Crampons stay in backpack.

On Saturday, 21.1. ascent to Nanos. Up the steep, back the gentle past chapel of St. Hieronymus. Windy on top, otherwise path sunny and dry. Detour to scenic peak Grmada 1207m. Some pics:

Yesterday on top of Nanos winter conditions and very strong bora blowing, we could hardly walk and fought with the bora, to the top via steep, back via easier, nothing stops real mountaineers nasmeh

where there's a will there's a way nasmeh

Nice, hribovska, but on Nanos it usually blows regularly. I was on top only once, sort of in spring, when not even a blade of grass moved. Obviously I was lucky. Soon I plan to go up again, and I hope it won't blow then either, because I can't stand wind. zavijanje z očmi

Otherwise, real mountaineers shouldn't let that disturb their goal. nasmeh

Deciding between ascent of Vremščica and Nanos. Chose Nanos, offers more shelter than Vremščica when walking its expanse.
At Razdrto temperature bearable -7 degrees and windy. Not as bad as expected. During ascent only hear bora playing its melody in treetops. Otherwise not felt much - even had to take off a layer. On path only "snow fluff". No crampons needed, nor gaiters. Chose ascent via Pleša. Just below summit hear that bora has no "real" power. Stepped on top and didn't need all fours nasmeh

. Been worse. Above Nanos blue skies, views hazy. Altogether met about ten visitors.

In picture 4 there's "chain"! First belay much lower. Missing basic info - was the hut open?

. To me, whether the hut is open is not basic info. Often I don't even go into the hut. Well, today I did - it was open and warm inside.

Definitely Velesa, it's good to warm up in the nicely heated hut - with such "friendly weather"! And all the beauties of Nanos will be nicer! jezik

In the morning the road to Vipava was closed to trucks, of course because of the bora. But we went to Nanos to see this free energy they don't want to use usefully, except for drying prosciutto. Up the steep path and in the forest it was still quite pleasant, dry trail, friendly sun and of course snowdrops which are really beautiful in this part of our homeland. Higher in the rocks the bora was felt, so we walked hunched and grabbed the steel cables. At the top of course snow, not for skiing but enough for childish joy. The hut was closed on weekdays, so we didn't rest long. Thermometer showed zero degrees at eleven. No satisfaction with the view today. With bora nothing is visible, really strange. Back to Razdrto starting point via the gentler path and behind us the first somewhat steeper tour this spring.

These do not ring yet and do not call spring.

Morning (Sunday, 25.3.2012) clouds still hung and piled over KSA peaks, so quick decision for Nanos. No regrets even for a moment nasmeh

Parking in Razdrto was quite full, but still space for a few iron horses. Started fairly late - just after 11. After a few steps we knew there'd be plenty of visitors. Ah well, the crowd disperses. Up the steeper path, exposed in places, so stow poles and grab rocks with hands sometimes mežikanje

. I was captivated by the enchanting views that kept coming. Spring flowers accompany much of the path, adding charm to the ascent nasmeh

. Wind joined at the end, not too strong or cold... just right to chase away some heat nasmeh

. Then the hut... around and in it tons of hikers and fresh air seekers with their doggies (T 16°C). Stayed at hut 2.5h, passed quickly. Interesting company nearby mežikanje

. Returned via gentle path past St. Jerome. Stopped at beekeeper selling honey, even red --- supposedly good for better blood. Then quick to car to change and earned beer nasmeh

Anyway, phenomenal trip for me. Shame no highest peaks or sea. For the cherry on top.
Thanks super company, incl. Maja. Looking forward to similar and longer hikes.

View of Nanos didn't promise sunbathing at top, but in end except fog and gale at very end not a drop. Sun even peeked sometimes and overall quite pleasant. Path a bit slippery from rain, summit hut open with homemade papice offer. Interesting how little greenery on Nanos yet, snowdrops just blooming at top. With sauna combo ideal day, and not over yet. nasmeh

Oh Nanos, please take this hat down when I come to visit.

I'll worry about it later when I'm there. Hearing it wasn't pleasant, nor seeing it.

Nanos is a real mountain, with all that belongs to it.

This isn't visible enough, you'd have to hear it. Like a jumbo landing it was howling.

This one is blooming, though I don't know exactly what this bush is called. It has thorns and berries in autumn.

Today we wandered a bit on Nanos with our youngest from Vojak hut to highest peak - Suhi vrh 1313m and then by car to Abram to see the bear. Most excitement over bunker just below summit.

I used the holiday day for a Nanos visit; full parking in Veliko Ubeljsko hinted at a crowd up top; indeed plenty from this start on both approaches, no need to watch marks with predecessor almost in front; I tried steep up and around to Grmada, then gentle back; summit full of people and four-legged friends, no super views but sea visible; nice path, some rocks, wires and modest climbing ( velik nasmeh

for my courage), drags at end on endless grassy slope; no wind at top, but last meters back light spring rain refreshed us; really nice piece of our country; nasmeh
