Hamo.. What you wrote is an even bigger mess than if written without commas! Kill, no mercy! Kill no, mercy! (Anton Ingolič- Secret Society PGC) Now you see the difference.

G. Gregor, I registered on this forum because ignorant liliput wrote a rant and spread lies around mountains. You missed the forum 200%. Example.... if someone writes they found my stolen car, what will I look for, commas or car. I'm not interested in commas or your grammar, it interests me the essence and if I don't get it I don't quote it. No hard feelings, nice day

I agree, let's continue with mountains. The proofreader's spot, however, if we need an amateur, legitimately only sirt1 can occupy it in the future.

Yesterday I walked a nice circular path Veliko Ubeljsko - sv. Bric - Vojkova koča - Veliko Ubeljsko. The part of the path from Veliko Ubeljsko to sv. Brica is not marked, but the path is always nicely traceable. Regards, Tadej

I'm new to the forum, but an old mountaineer and regular visitor to Nanos. What's happening on Nanos with the new caretakers is no longer like anything. First you wait 10-15 minutes to even get tea or whatever (2-3 ahead of you) listening only to whining about how great the previous caretaker was, with whom I only have good experiences (quick and friendly service). The incident that forced me to write on the forum happened in August. Waiting in line for tea, since service takes foreeeever, I asked for the WC key (with new caretakers it's of course locked). The lady explained they have no water and WC is unusable - it blew my mind. Hut and in front full of visitors. So what now? Where? Of course behind the hut where you have to watch where you step, the previous caretaker they dragged on TV and papers never allowed that, even with much greater water shortage. Conclusion - I'll remain a regular Nanos visitor - but avoid the hut from afar.

If that's the case, pack lunch and tea in the backpack, and it'll be fine.

Oh, what problems some "mountaineers" fuss about when hiking in the mountains. I'm also a regular Nanos visitor, using it for building fitness for higher mountains and climbing. So far I've never bothered with the hut, caretakers, food or drink at the top. I take everything needed with me, whether the hut is open or not doesn't interest me at all. I go to the mountains for the beauty of nature, silence, relaxation and health, both mental and physical. I think that's the main purpose of visiting mountains, not service in huts. I think there are enough restaurants, hotels and shops in the valleys where the above "mountaineers" can fill their bellies with gourmet food and drink. Please visit those, leave us "trail-worn highlanders" the wonderful nature, silence and all the pristine mountain beauty. Thanks, no hard feelings!

@slavkoa Normally I don't comment in such cases, but this time I'll say something... True, mountain is for enjoying nature, but if there's a hut on top, its purpose is to take care of hikers who want it. Ignorant behavior towards hikers as described by Don has no place. If they can manage on Planika or Kredarica and elsewhere so that a hiker can decently do their business, then they can on Nanos too. If not, let the mountaineering club close the hut and that's it. Shameful that there are tenants inside who find everything hard and only think about how to earn as much as possible. And one more thing. This hut was great years ago. Even school hiking groups slept there multiple times with elementary kids. And if it worked then, they could take care of the hut and its customers today like a few years ago.

When I read the posts by Mr. Don and Mr. Ribic, my conscience compels me to give my opinion on this. I visit Nanos several times a year. I've always been satisfied with the hut service and staff, both previous and current tenants. Without these media polemics, I wouldn't even know the staff changed. On a beautiful warm October Sunday, Nanos was full of people. I also waited long for tea and cottage cheese struklji, but not because of incompetent or lazy staff, but because of the crowd wanting quick service. While waiting at the counter, an older hiker asked for the toilet key. The lady at the counter said it's currently occupied and she can use the staff toilet, which seemed a very nice gesture to me. What the above "mountaineers" write goes beyond all bounds of mountaineering etiquette. Some imagine mountain huts as super hotels with WiFi and similar civilization stuff. We must realize and be satisfied that the hut offers shelter and basic service within its possibilities. I don't know if the "old mountaineer" lady realizes that by doing her business with luxurious water flush, she'd prevent the caretaker from making tea for other hikers because water would run out. From an experienced hiker I'd expect knowledge of mountain conditions, no running water, only limited rainwater. So she'd do her business somewhere on the trail in nature. She claims the previous caretaker didn't allow that. Madam, it's not about the caretaker but water, and if God hadn't sent rain to the previous one and the cistern was empty, she'd do the same. To better imagine the staff's dilemma when water runs out in the hut, close your home water supply for a few days and use the toilet, and you'll easily faint, as you wrote. Everything I wrote applies to Mr. Ribic too, as he just echoes Don. Probably this gentleman doesn't know conditions in huts in the Triglav range when he writes how needs are decently met there. If he were there on hot August weekends when huts are packed, he'd probably hold his nose. He'd probably blame the caretakers for bad smells, not himself and visitors. The gentleman even suggests closing the hut due to bad conditions. I suggest he doesn't visit the hut, but for all others it should stay open.

@rosana I'll try to answer without being offensive... You'll have a hard time explaining to the locals what can and can't be done on Nanos. The opening hours of the hut under the new tenant have been halved. Services as well... Regarding water... Before, firefighters brought it... or the owner himself, now when it runs out, it's gone... I had nothing against the new hutkeeper, only once I honestly answered what she asked about the food... and the offense was huge... and to avoid misunderstanding, I also praised what was praiseworthy but she didn't hear that. She heard only what was wrong and of course misunderstood it... But what can we do, only regular Nanos visitors see this... lpM

In April 2010 I was last in this part of Nanos, but it pulls me again to this interesting peak. Already then I wrote criticism about the hut. Today I'm interested if they have perhaps renovated the hut, because if it's still in the same condition as in 2010, I have no desire to enter. LP!

I was on January 1st, on Nanos and in the hut. I ordered goulash with polenta, it was the previous hutkeeper, she told me she was alone, there were quite a few people. But I got the order very quickly, so I have nothing to comment.

@rosana If you want to, everything is possible. I know exactly what kind of WC is at Planika or Kredarica and also what kind is at Nanos. IF there's no water, arrange a field WC and that's it. Not that people go behind the house and elsewhere and thus pollute the surroundings of the hut. And one more thing. There's a road to Nanos along which you can drive everything the hut needs by car. So excuses that it's a mountain hut meant for shelter in bad weather and we should be happy it exists at all are a bit off. Time has moved on and hikers deserve decent treatment; huts of all kinds (and their staff too) are there for us and not vice versa, so they will have to behave accordingly. If abroad they can ensure that huts in the high mountains (Nanos is not high mountains) are tidy and clean, then we will have to do the same here.

I haven't been to Nanos for a long time and it's slowly time for a visit. But it's not high mountains, where things are even more old-school in terms of culture. It seems to me that hutkeepers change often at lower altitudes outside the Alps and at the same time there's more dissatisfaction on both sides. Of course the hut on Nanos can offer more because of the road, but it's still not a hotel, but a mountain hut. People's demands are sometimes excessive too. And there are many "hikers" who drive to the top by car. And some think they've come to a hotel. If not necessary, it's best to avoid it.

@ŠpRo29 Nothing surprising and I'm afraid there will be more of it. Especially since Nanos is the border of Primorska and Notranjska, where there are the most bears. Large forest systems (Javorniki, Snežnik etc.) provide a lot of space. Most are in Loška dolina, but you can meet them anywhere, even on the most visited peaks like Slivnica. Around Krim my colleague says there are loads of them. Bear and wolf have multiplied nicely. Now bear is practically all over the country. For the current one-year period starting Oct 1, planned cull is 109 bears (83 last year) and 7 wolves. So I'm not surprised that the furry ones have conquered Nanos too. And in Trnovski gozd and Hrušica probably some can be found too.

No mold on walls and corners. The current hutkeeper tries very hard to keep the premises as tidy as possible, but people's demands have become really unbelievable. I recommend that everyone heading to the hills - mountains at least roughly reads the Mountain Hiking Ethics Code and something about mountain huts. Maybe it would be good to attend some lecture, hiking school... then the hiking and mountain world would be nicer too. For both sides, for hutkeepers and hikers and for the forum on this site. www.pzs.si/vsebina.php?pid=23> Honorary Code of Slovenian Hikers /www.pzs.si/vsebina.php?pid=23> House Rules for Mountain Huts

@tavzentroza Unfortunately that's how it is today with mass hiking. Especially when there's a road up for those with motorized boots. No, mass hiking isn't wrong, but the hut isn't a hotel after all. Even if it's only at 1200m.
