Snow really caused a lot of damage and of course extra work for all who maintain paths, so every branch moved aside counts. Thanks Janezs!nasmeh
Safe travels!

I'm wondering about the ice and need for crampons these days on Peca. What's the road status to Jakob? Thanks and safe trip!

When do you plan to go? We have tomorrow planned. If still relevant, I'll report later.

I was there today. Road to guardhouse is fine, gritted. Further don't know. Otherwise no crampons needed to top, at least seemed so to me.

Hello.
As for today: road to Mitnek completely cleared and drivable without issues, no special driving skills needed. Further, judge yourself. Gravel snowy, occasionally gritted. Looked drivable from start but we parked at Mitnek anyway. Don't know how far.
Further - ascent from Mitnek killer steep. Straight up steep gully, sweat big time. Especially warn about path section with steps. Now steps mostly icy, very dangerous esp. in descent. Careful!
Except that, only bit problematic just above hut. Steep traverse, path narrow, slope steep. Shady, snow hard, poor grip. Now rope there, makes it easier. On saddle pure joy. Morning hard frozen, later sun hit, snow softened, boots gripped great. Basin below summit both variants trodden - leftish gully maybe steeper, right ridge maybe easier but exposed spots over wall.
Crampons necessary? If no rope on traverse almost yes. Now with rope ascent esp. descent possible without, not aesthetic but goes. Took mine, used a bit for training.
Divine day, super weather, great views, great tour. Nothing to add.

Last year I know they were at the hut for NYE. But we're already planning Uršlja Gora, probably going.

With touring skis from the Austrian side to Peca. These days it's abnormally windy, hindering walking a lot. Little snow on the lower part, can't ski some places, upper part ok. With luck, gondola descent to the valley, otherwise damage skis or walk.

Today we were on Peca in gale-force winds, the snow was so blown up and strong wind made the approach to the top difficult. On the very summit there's no snow because it's blown away, otherwise there's quite a bit of snow.

Today, January 8th, I set off for Peca. Starting point at Mitnek farm in Pod Peci: nice, easy and very well-marked trail first to the hut under Peca, which was closed, and then to the summit itself. The path is trodden except on descent; need to be careful because of slipping. Weather was... quite wildly windyvelik nasmeh so on top just a couple minutes then gas to shelter lower down. It was nicenasmeh

Yesterday 08.01.2012. We parked the car under Kumr. Then trail under feet and towards Peca. At the beginning of the path not much snow, here and there ski tracks still visible. Crust is more and more, sometimes sinking through old base. In the steep part of the forest path not much snow. Even before exiting the forest the picture was completely different. We put on snowshoes and continued without worry. We also hit snowdrifts over a meter and a half high, here the crust is harder, no problem if the base held our weight. In this middle part of the path there was almost a meter of snow. The picture changes when we come out of the scree, here it's blown bare like in a desert, only hard, sometimes icy crust remains. Wind today doesn't spare either, so Austrians rightly think about wind energy. On top just stamp and back. Peca on Sunday wasn't lonely, had somewhere between twenty and thirty visitors. On return we walked quite in small steps to leave the most visible and trampled path. Regards

Snow from 5 cm at Tomaževa hut, to 15 cm towards the top where of course it's blown away. For downhill (from top and past the hut towards Tomaževa hut) I'd recommend at least heel crampons.

Today 06.02.2012 we drive again to under Kumr. In the car computer shows -12°C. Quickly get ready and trail under feet. When we reach the junction, we follow a few meters of sledge track, it's covered with crust. Later the track of two skiers helps us, which leads to the slope of Peca. From Kneps saddle to the top it's been blown bare all winter. Here and there snow drifts have formed. Today along the whole path light snow was falling, wind accompanied us, which especially on top was very strong and sharp. Because of fog, we walked in poor visibility. That's it from Peca. Regards
