Especially in hard winter it is occasionally plowed only to the memorial for fallen partisans. There we turn right into the forest, cross to the meadow and over it (usually trodden) and join the path from karavla. Thus we extend the tour a bit, but the first part is nicely gentle. Since I know this path, I rarely start from karavla.

Thanks for the reply. If we're lucky with the weather, we'll head up there for the first time this weekend.

On Tuesday I was on Peč and the road to Topla is drivable almost to the parking lot, up to cca 1300m (where there are two hairpins), from there it's only about 15 minutes walk to the parking lot in Topla. But the road is partially icy, so you need good tires and a bit of courage. Snow on the path is already less than in the pictures a few days ago, the summit is completely blown clean. Up to 1900m it was mostly sinking in, southern snow, then you could walk on top of the frozen snow.

Today again on Peč. Started from AP in Mežica, via Šteng to the Karavla, from there to the hut on Peč, Mali Peč and to the summit and back the same way. Conditions are still excellent. A bit higher than Karavla it's a bit icy, but with crampons you go like a tank . At the hut mandatory sunbathing. Then I went to check the climbing path. There's still quite a lot of snow on it, but solid footsteps are made. Cables are under snow in all 3 gullies. The path is passable with ice axe and crampons. Without that, no playing around, or you'll end up express in Topla. The normal path is nicely trodden and compact. Strong wind on the summit, gusts moved me at times. View still magnificent. Summit is completely bare, but enough snow on the path. I was apparently the only one up there in the last 2 days, at least according to the logbook. Jackdaws kept me company on top and I rewarded them with lunch.

Haven't been up there much, but from what I've seen and walked around elsewhere today you can count on snow starting around 900m asl. From the hut to the summit expect quite a nice amount of snow, since quite a bit from before is still left. Shouldn't be too difficult. Won't you start from the valley?
