Just noticed that on Saturday 28.10.2017 I celebrate the tenth anniversary - Joined: 28.10.2007 Quite a lot has changed in this period. Some have stopped posting, some are on bad terms. Sadly, some have passed away. Time relentlessly marches on... Now to the topic Peca As we drive along the winding road from Zavodnje up towards Sleme, the rising sun lights up the hills to the east. At 8am we park in Topla 0C. First ones at the parking lot. The steep slope to Kneps warms us and soon we are in short sleeves. Patches/clumps of snow are frozen. At the saddle we turn right on the mowed unmarked path. At least 20cm of snow. At 10:35 we are at the summit (Kordeževa glava). Windy, but for Peca summit it's nothing. We snack in the sun in the lee of the ridge. We descend the gullies down. Almost no snow. Sun in the wall pleasantly warms. We opt for the traverse under the SW wall. Beautiful, wonderful traverse. Every step is a pleasure. Wet, heavy snow and if we hit it somewhere it's no obstacle. Sun bakes into the walls right above us. Every now and then I refresh my head with snow and wipe sweat from my face. Rocks of various shapes. Spires, obelisks, animal shapes, faces in the wall... At 14:00 we close the loop and back on the marked path from Topla to Kneps. Then steep descent through the forest and at 15:00 we refresh with ice-cold water flowing from an abandoned mine shaft. Very nice circular tour. Lots of sun. Snow in shady spots (where there is) frozen, in sunny ones melting. Met quite a few Peca lovers at the top, later none. lp

Peca from Mitnek (02.11.17) Snowshoes were necessary, as I was the first after this snowfall, but up to 1400m where the path was already nicely snowshoed and ski track made. Base towards the top was harder and windpacked. Mala Peca was still virgin, so I snowshoed to it. Path is well compacted, so now walkers can come too. Weather like in a fairytale

Now a motorbike is mandatory, especially from Crna and Mežica up. Trees are probably piled up on the path into cubes.

To Peca from Bistrica We started in fog, higher up the sun shone, somewhere above 1000 m. When the ski slope ran out, we put on snowshoes and snowshoed against the wind to the top. Due to the wind, we turned back right away.

From Kum to Peca. I was very curious how much damage the windstorm did. Most obstacles I noticed at the start of the path, when turning left up from the road. Then I got to the skiers' path, which eased walking with snowshoes. Above the tree line, walking is easier, as the whole Peca is quite blown clean and fairly firm. Sure, there is also soft snow that sinks deep. The slope to Kordeževa glava and Knipsovo sedlo is quite icy. Strong wind on top, so I turned back right away. On the descent, I removed obstacles with a saw and pliers.

Peca from Mežica. From the saddle onwards windy, otherwise nice sunny day.

Peca from Mitnek (04.02.18) Snowshoes or skis, that's mandatory gear, plus gaiters and iron will. From 1600m onwards fresh snow around 80 cm. With snowshoes sinking to knees, sometimes over. Last part, ridge mostly blown to last year's base. Top even some snowing from fog. We went to Mala Peca too and past the hut to valley. Path snowshoed, but a hiker would still have a tough job Safe travels
