May Day Peca: Circular tour from Topla-Mala Peca-protected-Kordeževa glava-Knipsovo sedlo-Topla. Day more cloudy, views solid, windless at the top, which is rare. Path from Topla quite destroyed, but still the most beautiful ascent to Peca. Towards Mala Peca there's a lot of snow in the canyon, which you have to climb up, no difficulties. On the path 3 or 4 new fallen trees, over two a bit awkward to pass, the other two can be bypassed. Protected path dry, protections flawless, but more stones every year. Last ascent on Austrian side dry. To the other side to Knips over snow, nothing special. Then need to cross 3 snowfields downhill, especially the last one quite dangerous, caution needed. Nice tour. In Topla fill spring water and quick to KSA on Raduha.

Hey, nothing about Peca for a while.
Last Sunday we headed to Peca, as every year we say it's the anniversary of hiking. Weather ok, only biggest sadness when we find out the hut is closed. From local hikers we learn that in the club they quarreled, leaders resigned and so the hut below Peca and on Pikovo remains closed. I ask, can they allow this? Isn't it the duty of clubs to take care of hikers?
They also get a euro from my membership.

Yesterday first time on Peca. The plan was to start at the mine in Topla and via climbing path to the top, but we missed already in the lower initial part and so continued towards Knipsovo sedlo. Since the ridge to Bistriška špica alternately bathed in nice mists we first went to explore part of Karavanke on Austrian side. There were only a few hikers despite Saturday. When we fed the ravens on top and charged with vitamin D, we headed to the main goal of the day - Peca. On top very poor visibility, so after mandatory stamp in the hiking booklet we rather went to the hut, where friendly warden served us divine barley soup. Since it was already late afternoon we had no time to see King Matjaž cave. Next time. A bit lower the sun greeted us, which didn't leave us until descent back to Topla. On this last section the hiking path in some parts completely buried under fallen trees and covered with sand due to maintenance of new forest paths, so orientation quite demanding. To the car we arrived on "our" path just 10 min before dark and dirty from climbing under two electric fences. Interesting and nice circular path.

Wandering around Peca
Today a nice sunny day, with light wind and "easygoing" walk on Peca. I set the starting point in Pristava, and returned the same way.

Yesterday from Topla to Kneps and to the top, back via normal to saddle below Mala Peca and back to Topla. Wonderful weather, path, except some fallen trees on way from Hut to Topla, nicely passable. In Topla, a cold but sunny and clear morning (+2C). Parking lot still empty. I push the beer can under the iron gate so it waits for me at the right temperature.
The steep slope (Kneps) warms me up soon. When I reach the sun, I go right on the hunting path. I get stuck a bit at two spots. Soon I catch the rhythm...
When I spot the gully I wished for last year, I go left up the hill. For a while still cut up, then suddenly end. Swimming through scree, crossing gullies, crawling through gullies and following chamois tracks. When I finally manage to cling to the prominent gully that descends wide at first and then narrows more, I finally escape the scree. Got a cut on forearm, lost hiking pole handle, resinous from ankles to head and slightly torn hiking pants. Needles from scree stored also in underwear and stinging, reminding me they're there...
Gully steep and only in the final part human traces (found climbing sling). Otherwise only chamois traces and their smell. Refresh with fresh snow and snack in company of ravens.
Descent via cables and marked to Topla. When I wash at mine exit and pull the can into light I feel it's quite light. Seems I slightly damaged the casing when hiding and the precious liquid slowly dripped for 7 hours.

Yesterday, Sunday 14.10., did a circular route on Peca. Starting point in Topla valley at abandoned mine a bit on marked and later towards Knipsovo sedlo. From saddle to the highest point of Peca descent towards Mala Peca and back to start in valley. Above 1700 m larches already in autumn colors, day was excellent and people quite a few.

Long time no post...
Saturday, 01.12 start mine in Topla valley, then to Knips saddle. Snow about 10 cm on trail, but someone ahead made footprints which didn't bother us at all
At saddle cold wind blowing so we didn't go further to Bistriška Špica and turned straight to the top - Kordeževa glava. From ridge we watched a herd of chamois. On the other side towards hut the path was quite trodden. At hut we went to see king Matjaž, in this snow he was abandoned and no visit yet.
Descent back to Topla valley, snow already much trampled and path slippery of course.

Yesterday from the upper station of the cable car at Peca ski resort to Bistriška špica. To the Knips saddle the path is nicely trodden, similarly further to Končnikov vrh. Further towards Bistriška špica snow is deep in places and sinks in. Mostly the snow is dry, in places windblown, parts of the path are wet.

Pristava - Kordeževa glava, back past Tomaževa hut, Miheva, Pristava
At the top, quite strong wind then also heavy snow shower. Path nicer than expected, not too many obstacles from this year's windthrow. We did a nice circular tour, with a stop at the hut.

2.1.2019 on Kordeževa glava. From Mežica to top and back. North wind, snow shower, little sun and fog and strong gusts on top. Path dry until last ascent under hut, in between some snow patches. From hut to top recommend small crampons, quite icy, snow just for sample.

Today past Dom via via ferrata to top. A little new snow just right seasoned the ascent. 
Snow too little for serious winter gear use, ice axe useful only in last gully and only ca 5m until you reach cables.
Below still sun, on top honest wind and fog, so no views today. 
Descent on easier path recommended with crampons.
