Hello. I'd kindly ask for advice regarding a trip to Peca, I'm thinking of going this Sunday, specifically via the easy path from Podpeča. I'm interested in avalanche risks and weather, both of which I've already checked. This path isn't so exposed and dangerous, but still I'd like an expert's opinion. I've been on a few similar hikes myself, I have the gear. I'd ask for a correct answer regarding what's written, because I believe a good connoisseur would slap his forehead at such a question. Thanks. nasmeh I'd go on this path: http://www.hribi.net/izlet/podpeca_kordezeva_glava_peca_lahka_pot/11/665/4124

Best to go on an organized hike as evident from the PD MEŽICA schedule:

I saw that too, but unfortunately I don't have time on Saturday.

On Sunday you'll have a wide enough and trodden path so that with the gear you have you can reach the top.

On Sunday I was on Peca. It was quite interesting. We made a track to the top. Lots of snow. Now probably 30 cm of new snow, but societies have a group hike up on Saturday so the path will be nicely trodden. From Podpeča-Mitnek it'll be a highway to the topmežikanje.

Of course it will, hope the first ones tackle it with snowshoes, otherwise it'll be more of a crawl than a hike. But maybe it's already trodden nowmežikanje

Some truth is obviously hidden in your comment mežikanje, as the first records of the aid go far back into history. The oldest documented report of unusual walking on snowy mountains among us was left by J. V. Valvasor in Slava vojvodine Kranjske.
(J. V. Valvasor, Die Ehre des Herzogthums Krain, Nürnberg 1689, Bd. I, B. IV, Str. 583—584, Kap. XXVIII. Primerjal. slovenski prevod: Mirko Rupel, Valvasorjevo berilo, Ljubljana 1951, str. 94.)

Maybe recreation didn't mean to them what it means to you, but they walked and obviously also with snowshoes jezik

In the XVII century it was mainly about survival for them and back then they helped each other as best they could, and that's known up to what heights (where there was something useful for them), now they would hardly make it to every little bump in winter.....so it doesn't sound too smart-ass, already 40 years ago I made it on foot in winter to most two-thousanders without crampons, some 35 years with touring skis.. enough said, winter is here and snow enough for all needs and ways of use.....

I simply don't understand all this smart talk, even though it's purely personal opinion.
And thanks to those who sometimes make a track.
Best!

The traditional 30th hike to Peca succeeded this year too. Now it's a real bobsled track up there. Recommend microspikes for kids and those with little mileage in the hills. I went without and it's doable, but really very slippery and great caution needed, especially on descent. At the hut very friendly staff and excellent food. Recommend visit!

"ŠTINGE"-KORDEŽEVA GLAVA

Still lots of snow, early hour helps as base is still firm and you can walk on snow that doesn't sink. Nice sunny morning, some wind on top. Nejc and I enjoyed the hike.

On Sunday to the solarium from Mežica and back. Path to Karavla is dry, except a few patches at top of ski slope. From Karavla to Rišperk clearing occasional snow, further on snow. Conditions excellent, up to 1800m in short sleeves, then with arm warmers to summit. Track attractively pulled straight to top over blueberries without zigzags. Props to who made it. Summit of course completely dry and windy, but wind friendly so enjoyed half hour alone on top. Descent ok too, no sinking even mid-day. Of course still lots of snow. On first two traverses avalanche did its job, under hut last one still compact. Views very good, no clouds, some visitors. By car to Šteng, with some lynx on the car to Karavla.mežikanje

Today to Peca from Mežica. After 1.5 hours walk on marked path to Dom na Peci, my buddy and I left the marked path and went on unmarked trail. When snow started the trail got lost under snow and we had snowy off-trail. Somehow two hours ascending locally very steep terrain. In fog we couldn't do that. 30 min before Peca summit we hit marked trail leading to Peca summit from Dom na Peci. Peca summit itself snow-free. Had wonderful weather. Down back to Mežica on marked path past Dom na Peci. To hut and below hut still lots of south snow.
