You're right. At the scenic bend by the monument we turned left and then walked close to the ridge all the time. To the top it took us about two hours.

For modest ones Ratitovec is also a good ski choice, of course from Bohinj side via Bitenska, Ribceva and planina Pecane to the top and to the hut on flank nasmehyesterday they ran outeek. Shortly above Bit.pl. on the road is solid ice, above Rib.pl. then 10-30 cm snow all the way to top. Upward on mt. path through forest, skiing from top via Pecana and around on road.

Hello, hikers.

On Saturday I might go on this hike:

http://www.hribi.net/izlet/_jesenovec_krekova_koca_na_ratitovcu_cez_razor/21/147/2486

Current conditions on this path and especially at summit unknown to me, except these few pics and comments here from couple days ago. Wasn't paying attention what weather was here previous days. Forecast up to Saturday incl. partly cloudy, maybe sunny, no precip, snow, but Saturday quite cold to -8°C.

Given forecast and current state: possible to reach summit in mid-high boots, no gaiters, crampons, ice axe? I have all that, co-hiker currently doesn't.

How much snow on path itself, at summit + what kind + will it be icy on path Saturday?

Thanks for info.

It would be good if she had at least "ketnice" - those small crampons, because the path can be smooth-icy, ice axe not needed. Even without gaiters I think it's doable because the path from the snow line onwards is trodden.

We were up Sunday. If going via Poden snow starts bit below pass. Nice to have small crampons. Snow to hut, on few sections by rocks also icy. Enjoy!

Has anyone gone to Ratitovec recently (and by which path)? Are crampons enough or is it necessary to have an ice axe too?

The path to Ratitovec is trodden. I recommend the path via Razor. The path via Poden is closed due to avalanche danger!

Regarding Ratitovec forum categorization, doesn't it belong to Julian Alps?

Small correction, via Povdenmežikanje.

Of course it belongs, as it is the easternmost spur of the Lower Bohinj Mountains ridge.

Poden or Povden. Eternal dilemma. Often you hear just Po(v)den.

Some photos from yesterday's ascent to Ratitovec. I started the path from the road Bohinjska Bistrica - Soriška planina (section called Razglednik) and from there went to Gladki vrh via planina Pečana. The path mostly runs along forest roads and due to the relatively long access in winter is usually not trodden. It was the same yesterday when I climbed to the summit with snowshoes.
Best, Tadej

Tadej, congrats for the winter long approach I witnessed in summer with MTB, roads from Pečana to Bohinjsko sedlo just wouldn't end. Hats off again for your marathon-like mountain tours!nasmeh.

Here, as I see, it could be "dragged" with skis.

Ratitovec is my closest peak over 1500m...I've visited it many times, but never as nice as last weekendnasmeh....I realized Ratitovec offers much more than just Goli vrh and Altemavereekmežikanje. Such pristine nature, truly breathtaking viewsnasmeh, and...lots more that can't be described.

Early in the week talk was about "experiencing sunset, watching our peaks by full moon glow, waking to dawn and beautiful sunrise"nasmehmežikanje. With the forecast, we knew wishes would come true...and it'd be CRAZYnasmehmežikanje.

Started at Danje junction. Walked quite a bit on gravel road, icy in spots....After 20min reached a village in nice spot. Great view across valley to Blegoš abovenasmeh, eyed Ratitovec ridge too. Put on snowshoes between huts-first time for mevelik nasmeh....immediately on groundvelik nasmehjezik...heheh. Sinking into virgin snow...pricelessnasmeh. Markers vanish now and then, but can't get lost. Planina Jirn bathing in sunbeams. Can't believe how beautiful...peaceful...serene...like fairy talenasmehmežikanje. Follow markers to hut...views to Porezen and Tolmin range wonderful. Slowly cross Kremant slope. Snowshoes grip poorly here, snow partly crusted, right foot slipseek. Then starts...dance of colorsnasmeh...romance. Views widen, setting sun melts coldest soulnasmehvelik nasmeh...heart. Full moon glow-no headlamps needednasmeh...Peaks near and far wonderful...like daylight. Followed ski tourer tracks...quite tired, can't wait for hutvelik nasmeh...still ways to go...First Altemaver. Looked far, there quicknasmeh. Descent-more fallsvelik nasmeheek, fatigue less carefuleek. Sharp wind still, straight to warm. Few visitors in hut, expected weekend. Chatted with super friendly energetic keepersnasmeh. Flancati still great, delicious. Full moon drew crowds, lively till midnight. Cold night in room, below zeroeek. Sunday ridge to Altemaver, Kremant, Kačji rob, Žbajnek, Danjarsko planina, Mišji grunt to Soriška planina. Friendly ski tourer joined partwaynasmeh, as enthusiastic as us. Then 3km asphalt.
Thrilled by tour, pleasantly tired to Sorica, Železniki for hot mealeek.

Ratitovec always beautiful, this time best. Gave more than ever wantednasmehmežikanje. Probably back in flower season, start at Soriška planina where we ended.

Had blast...wonderful...Thanks.

Pics tonight :-)
