Ratitovec

Today I headed to Selški oče in the rain and left it for the first time with somewhat mixed feelings.
The road they started building a year ago seems to me to now reach almost to Razor and in a very rough way spoils the previously pristine nature. Empty cans are of course not missing next to it, showing how indifferent we are to the mountains that Slovenes are supposed to love so much.
When returning from the other side via Povden I can't help staring at the gigantic power lines, which with their associated infrastructure give a threatening industrial impression.
I know, I also need electricity, I also know that wood provides bread for numerous families, but couldn't this really be achieved in a somewhat more refined way, less noticeable and less megalomaniac?
These places are so beautiful and in the last few years development is encroaching even into previously untouched areas. I'm just worried that we are too little thoughtful and too little attentive to what we are supposed to love so much. Thrown trash next to the new addition is just an additional exclamation mark.
Since I'm already grumbling I'd mention the chain that markacists probably installed in good faith above Razor... The chain in the style of the one on Triglav ridge is in fact only circa 15cm away from the rocks we can lean on! Is this really necessary?
Sorry for describing today's path so negatively, there was also a lot of beauty but I have children and it would be nice if they could also take their offspring somewhere pristine!

Lp, Miha

I agree with the above post - a real little catastrophe in decisions and execution! mrk pogled

As for the power lines, it's even worse on the other side, from Jesenovec to Planina Klom and further. Here they already reach the Vratca saddle, last autumn the existing road was significantly widened and extended. I won't talk about the countless new branches. The local PD has already informed the municipality about the issue of new roads being built, but what when owners and agricultural communities don't need permits for these interventions. But it's said that this is not all when it comes to roads.

Hi, obviously this is the price for the development and progress of industrial society or as some say "collateral damage" of forest maintenance and careless attitude towards thrown cans.

Maybe it was the walking in the rain that caused such thinking.
At the end of the post I thought I would read "when I got lower, there were cars everywhere." (One gets used to everything.) Roads and power lines bring money and work to many. Otherwise, I like to step, even on some power line, of course if it's not torn up. Whoever doesn't agree with me shouldn't take me seriously.

I hope all "great guardians of nature" hike to Ratitovec on foot from the valley. We should suggest to the municipality to close all roads under Ratitovec except for locals and start with remediation, as the first measure to green the asphalted parking lot at Prtovč, since then it won't be needed anymore and suddenly 90% of problems will disappear.mežikanje

With light drizzle. Paths without special features. And in anticipation of when I will drive to the top by car, since road construction is progressing nicely. Understand as you wish.

Today to Ratitovec from Torka. Walking from the last houses and further to the lower cable car station along the road drags a bit (back even more), soon above the cable car station the signs direct you left uphill, where the path at the top of the slope joins the one from Prtovč via Povden. Weather not so bad, mostly clear, no wind and suitable temperatures for hiking. There was quite a lot of visitors, with nice weather it would be quite crowded, since the final event of the Prijatelj Ratitovca 2015 action was taking place. Path without special features and not too muddy.

Lubadar, we can be glad we're not in Italy, there would already be a gondola to Ratitovec, and to Kredarica, and many other places.....

Yes, and people in these areas could then also earn something from tourism, so they wouldn't have to go abroad or constantly complain that you can't get a job here.

And how many ferratas we would have in the Julian Alps!

Before II.WW, the planned cable car to the top of Kanjavec (from Voj via Velska dolina) would be operating today, but after the war they prevented it.

The highest-lying road in our country led all the way to 2520 meters above sea level.
The Italian officer namely often just rode up with a Moto Guzzi to check the status in the Morbegna barracks.

Not that I support it, but facts are facts.

mikipi, cable cars around Kanjavec were planned in the sixties and not before the second war. The option that advocated limitation of interventions in the high mountains prevailed.

ZeK - what you write about was a mulatjera, not a road. You can go on a road with a car too.

But instead of arranging these mulatjeras today and using them for tourist purposes as cycling and hiking paths, they, with the exception of a few small exceptions, overgrow and decay. Elsewhere they gladly exploit them. It is similar with newly emerging paths, which are mostly made for forest management needs. When the work is done, many of them lie idle, instead of exploiting them (in agreement with the owner, of course) and continuing to benefit from them. Anyway, they are and will be there. Unfortunately, they are later mostly used for the highest possible car access.

Or can someone please briefly explain why we would want more tourists in the mountains. Thanks.

Because there will be more of them. Ok?

It's not about wanting more visits but to finally exploit all the tourist potential we have and for tourism to finally become an important economic branch here too, since we surely have the most reserves here regarding all the untapped potential.

korl, why would it be good if there were more?
GregorC, in principle I agree, but this can be done in more ways. The huge advantage of Slovenia over most other countries is in the relative pristine nature. If we exploit that as the basic offer, it is possible to earn with additional tourist activities and offers, not with "arranging" nature. There is enough of that everywhere.
