Road to Vrata

If the Styrian goes by bus, he'll have to leave home at 3 and get home at 22... definitely wasted time, I start earlier in summer because the day is known by the morning.. good luck!

I imagine this bus is more for those who come to sit a bit in front of Aljažev dom, have some snack and drink, and not make jams with cars. Those of us going to the heights have to start hiking at five anyway, maybe latest at six...

You're exaggerating with early starts.

Because of such burlesque it might happen that I won't even visit Vrata this year, which I myself don't believe. And what buses, that's crazy...zavijanje z očmi

Well, what exactly could be done? Anyway there's a crowd if so many people, there will always be problems. Another option comes to mind, namely the arrangement like on some mountain roads, say in Italy, where one-way traffic is set up and in the morning only uphill is allowed, in the afternoon only downhill. Then probably a bit less Texas.

For a start, they could install an automatic barrier with a traffic counter, which closes when the parking lot is occupied and opens when it is free, like it is arranged for Mangart Saddle.
Instead of bus transports, it would be sensible to introduce vans.

I have to speak up. This year already twice in Vrata. Once on a weekend, once on a weekday. Nowhere any problem. The problem is only some drivers who are used to driving on highways, which are also paid. Whoever doesn't want to meet the bus should check the timetable and drive behind the bus. I don't understand why one would park in Mojstrana and take the bus and pay parking there at least 10 euros, if in Vrata you pay 6 euros. Good luck with car or bus.

Well, today when I went by bike to Peričnik I saw in Mojstrana an electronic board saying in red letters in Slovenian and English "Vrata full, use p+r bus", but uphill traffic was still plentiful, also along the road to Peričnik many parked cars where they shouldn't park. And a nice column of cars went up behind the last bus. Completely different picture than about 2 weeks ago when I met like 4 cars from Mojstrana to Peričnik and back.

Yesterday the red sign was on already at 6am. The guy collecting parking fees in Vrata said it was a record and in jest added that "for today he can obviously already finish his shift". Otherwise, he explained that the red sign lights up at the 80-car limit. The main parking in Vrata was almost full then, the additional parking by the stream, almost the same size, was still completely empty. That means after the red light turns on, actually twice as many cars can park as before. Obviously, the red light is turned on earlier on purpose, probably to "scare" visitors and encourage bus use. I also noticed that one warden was already parked at 6am before the slope to Peričnik, perhaps to close the road for traffic after the parkings were full (?). Otherwise, at 6am the parkings for Kukovo and Cmir were still empty too.

"Parking by the stream" under the end-of-road parking is NO longer a parking lot. Parking is foreseen only on both sides of the road leading to Aljažev dom.

Well, anyway, I just share my experience: the parking collector took the fee and directed to that lot and commented that twice as many cars as on the main lot can park there. He didn't tell anyone not to park there; the opposite.

How come there's no parking lot if the sign directs there?

Of course there's parking by the stream too. Signs and the parking collector direct there. At least last week it was still like that.

That means in principle there should still be space for cars there until 6/7 am? But it's true that this and next weekend will be busy with nice weather.

Last Sunday after 6 am for sure there was no more space available.

From the article: max number of vehicles in Vrata valley is 200; why is the sign set to 80?!

As I wrote previously, in the road arrangement project to Vrata, parking by the stream is NOT planned. At the end of the road in Vrata, parking is planned on both sides of the road, total 100 parking spaces. As you report, on the parking lot they are still doing it "a bit homemade".

Great news about building P+R parking for Vrata! Too bad they didn't foresee it a tiny bit earlier and this season could have gone smoothly... nasmeh

I hope there won't be hourly parking fee, because then it's quite unusable for mountaineers...especially for some 2-day ones.
