They said on Friday's radio show that we will have to come to terms with it. Maybe they also meant flat earth. nasmeh

Three weeks ago, Passo Pordoi, from Arabba up, first parking on the right, free. Also several days, as needed. Next day Passo Gardena, on both sides of the pass, a bit below, along the road a bunch of small gravel parking lots, gratis of course. Last week around Kitzbuhel, Wilder Kaiser range, all passes I cycled over, everywhere free. I know Friuli pretty well, like this from memory, quickly, Zajzero is paid, don't remember elsewhere. A couple valleys in Friulian Dolomites too, but even there a few years ago only in season and for some time only on weekends.

Paid parking also at the starting point for Jerebica from It. What locals think about it nicely illustrates the inscription on the price board-thieves, robbers or crooks would be in our languagemežikanje

Usually I don't get into such debates, this time I'll add my pot.
As the previous wrote, I can confirm from first hand (not hear-say). Three years in a row in Dolomites 5 days each, every day to some mountains, paid parking only 1X! And that only because in the morning I wasn't paying attention to the slightly lower free parking, which would extend our hike by about 5 min.
No problem for me to pay parking e.g. most often in Završnica or at Prtovč (where they've raised prices a bit lately jezen), but e.g. 20 € for Vogar and 25 € for Vrata zavijanje z očmi.
And also, if I already pay (although I honestly pay taxes to the state and municipality and something could be financed from that) I think the parking should at least have WC and drinking water (which e.g. Završnica parking has, praise).
Hawk, I was talking mežikanje

Not even Zajzera is paid, checked on Saturday. At the customs there's a big red sign "chiuso" (closed).

Parking lots at Polish/Czech border - Karkonosze ridge, from Polish side:

Entry to national park 2EUR (locals show ID and it's free).

Parking fee 4-8EUR per day, or about 25-50 cents per hour, depending on where.

A bit of a comment on "traffic regulation" in Vrata:
- parking meter in Vrata accepts only one of the 3 cards we had (NLB), SKB, Revolut doesn't work
- easypark works... if you have signal, which there isn't, and you pay them commission too
- can't pay with cash, even if warden is there, he can't collect parking fee (as before)
- lower parking lot is closed
- everywhere some bollards with tape closing niches, looks very ...
- bus is free, runs every hour, but still need to pay for parking (10 eur)
- on Saturday at 6:00 wardens diligently walk around
- in the afternoon cars in all holes in Vrata

In short: if someone regulates something, it's the municipality's budget (and nothing else)
Well, from me except parking fee they get nothing. I rather had beer elsewhere. Somehow we need to express protest and reward citizens for super mayor. At the same time I'm calling others to the same behavior.
Overall I think it doesn't pay off for the municipality, fewer visits, less spending, and they have costs with barriers, bus etc..
Result: worse picture in Vrata, angry and frustrated people in front of parking meter, unregulated. In my opinion very bad, also from the state's side that yielded to municipal pressures.
Municipalities have actually become enemies of people and citizens.

Hope I saved someone some annoyance with this, maybe someone will think about it anyway??

A propos that post on PZS website. That post comes from the fact, which is briefly mentioned in it, but PZS doesn't hang it on big bell. Namely, that a petition was addressed to PZS leadership from almost all heads of Slovenian alpine sections. And of course PZS had to respond at least symbolically, because they can't ignore that AO are part of mountaineering societies and ultimately PZS represents alpinists too. And of course, AOs addressed PZS with completely justified accusations that such access regulation model clearly favors wealthier foreign visitors and leaves demanding mountain goers high and dry. And some facts were mentioned that are almost tragicomic, yet true - like that a visitor with PZS membership card is entitled to discount on parking in Paklenica (yes, Paklenica), but in Vrata gets just the middle finger.
So yes, I think it's quite right that the debate sharpens, because we can't ignore that all PZS initiatives in style "by public transport to mountains" (where at press conference also participated rep of crowned riffraff from Bohinj Tourism) address only smaller part of Slovenian mountains visitors. But PZS represents all. Also demanding ones and alpinists too.

PZS is making a fool of itself velik nasmeh

Here among other things it says:

"Alpine Association of Slovenia and CIPRA Slovenia under the project With public passenger transport to valleys and on foot to heights on Thursday, July 25, 2024, carried out journalistic mountaineering hike to Orožen hut with public transport to start - regular bus from Ljubljana or train from Jesenice, then tourist van from Bohinjska Bistrica to Raven, from where numerous crew bit knees to alpine hut under Črna prst, which they reached after good two hours drive and two hours walk from morning start in capital. After press conference they descended to Bohinjska Bistrica, where they boarded train to Jesenice and on to Ljubljana."

With public passenger transport to valleys and on foot to heights... What height, Orožen hut velik nasmeh velik nasmeh velik nasmeh

How is the current situation with the parking fees in Vrata if anyone knows? Can you park for free at the starting point for Za Cmirom, the starting point for Rokave or at Črlovcu?
Since there is currently no bus.
I would be very grateful for an answer.

As far as I've followed they will lower the barrier on 4.11.2024.
Maybe some useful info from this link https://www.gorenjskiglas.si/lokalno/zapornico-v-vrata-bodo-spustili-210223/

It's interesting, in Vrata the "winter" tariff has been lowered to 15€, hourly tariff also possible: first hour 1.2€, subsequent ones at 2€. Bohinj folks won't hear of introducing 24h instead of daily.

If I know how to calculate, 7+50+50+50 = 157, that many people can arrive in Vrata by 10 a.m. with free transport. Market niche for locals offering horse-drawn carriage transport, as in the times of the movie In the Kingdom of Zlatorog.
