Has anyone been from Rut to Rodica today or yesterday?
I'm interested in the conditions.

@lojz, I was on Rodica from Rut yesterday. Snow conditions were as LG described, no wind though. HAPPY 2020 and safe steps.

Today (Sunday, 3.5.2020) from Rut to Rodica. Effects of the nighttime front passage visible in last 20 min of ascent (frozen trail, bit of new snow on top). This will likely disappear in a day or two. Otherwise trail is dry. Whole ridge has quite some snow on north side, south slopes dry.

Saturday hike of 27 hikers from Rut to Rodica. Trail not demanding, nicely routed, bit through woods, then mule track. But nearly 1,000m ascent. Little sun, more clouds racing by, still views. Some spring flowers, prettier in sun. Summit quite windy, even some graupel, reminder gloves and hat mandatory. Nicely saw villages Rut and Grant, from 13th century Tyrolean colonization. One side Lake Bohinj, other sea. Šija and Vogel, Triglav clouded. Zajamniki and Uskovnica bit sunny. Ridge path to Črna prst of course. Porezen and Kojca in plain view. Beautiful spots in Baška grapa, known mostly to hikers. Saw famous linden in Rut, stocked honey, coffee at Slap on way home.

Has anyone been on Rodica last few days and can say what conditions are like from Bohinj side?

The day before yesterday (Wed, March 3) from Laški Rovt by road to Javor then Planina Suha. Over Lepa Suha via gully to saddle between Mala Rodica and Rodica then west slope to Rodica summit. Back skiing to road end, left to Planina Storeča raven then Storeč vrh to last pitch below Rjava skala station. Back same way.

Road snowy from ~600m, ~800m from Laški Rovt. Otherwise hard frozen, gentle gradient no issue skinning, but avoided steep frozen shortcut under Javor cautiously. Below Bukovska dolina put crampons on before steep hard frozen slippery ski forest slope, off well before Planina Suha. Over gully above Suha and last 300m to top also crampons, snow partly softened partly hard.

After ~1h wait on top ~1pm sun-exposed slopes softened enough for good skiing. Shaded sides still hard but skis gripped ok. Road under Javor seemed waste, took left fork to Planina Storeča raven then under Storeč vrh to gondola Rjava skala station. Late hour and unknown ~50m pitch before station unappealing, turned, partly skied partly walked back to Velika Suha valley then suitable speed on nice softened snow to car. Lower road unclipped skis twice.

Nice allday tour ~27km ~2000m up/down. Typical Bohinj mtns ramble when forest roads snowbound impassable. Day gorgeous sunny, summit almost windless. Met ~10 ski tourers. Far fewer than Sunday e.g. Veliki Draški vrh where one pic showed ~150 touring enthusiasts on final steep few 100m. At least third carried gear downeek (as friendly guys I met said, skins up Rodica slopes persistently..).

There are snowy roads for less than 6 kilometres.1

Gravel road above Rut village dry and betterzavijanje z očmi or wider than "main" in Grapa. Snow starts roughly at the col and is hard and nicely passable. Views in upper parts today almost nilzavijanje z očmi

Before movement restriction we used ski lifts operation and skied from below Šija to Lepa Suha, climbed via gully to pass between Rodicas and to summit. Snow first frozen, then thawed and on return already quite slushy. Skiing excellent, sun rather too hot. More at:

Pleasant trip from Rut or rather the forest above it. No features on the path, no snow, under the summit enough patches for nice sliding, say as a spice for a nice tour. Bohinj side still quite snowy. Weather gorgeous, mood clear, views from sea to Triglav, also elsewhere, as far as the eye can see. Nice trip nasmeh
