A bit late report but anyway. 11.07. me and Drago started at 5 pm from Vrata towards bivouac IV. After three hours of non-stop rain we arrived at bivouac. Thank God no Czechs there, but could see that recently "mummy's boys" camped who don't clean up after themselves. Bivouac OK otherwise, firewood there too so we dried wet gear. Morning 8 am off in nice sunny day towards Skrlatica, but after about an hour clouds and mist gather, so at climbing section entry the summit already in fog. At 10 on top, photos, sandwich and back down. No sun or great views this time of course. Protections all fine everywhere, no other issues. On return filled water at spring above snowfield, 5 min walk below climbing entry to Skrlatica. Picked up second backpack at bivouac and at 5 pm back in Vrata. Nice tour.

In August I plan to go from Vrata to bivouac and next day to Skrlatica then home to Kriski podi. Is there water on the path and where? Water hardest to carry. Thanks.

On the path water only in your backpack until you drink it.

Yes, depends on heat and person, last year hot I drank 4l, had 5.5l with me and on way back helped poor mountaineer with only 2l who was pretty dehydrated, so better extra liter to be safe

On 18.7.2012 we with group started from Vrata valley towards Skrlatica. Path led along marked trail to bivouac at Rušje where we rested a bit and continued ascent. All to below Skrlatica normal - easier marked path. Technically demanding around 2500m (below wall), where pegs and cables are needed, but some parts hands on rock without both. Recommend to anyone who has some peaks behind, no vertigo or fear of "drops". Of course path pics on my page M-foto.si

I too yesterday first time on Škrlatica. For Alj.hut-Bivouac 4-peak I took 5 hours. During the ascent cloudiness and fog helped me a lot, so I was spared the sun pounding. Still I sweated all day, drank 5 liters. 1800 m elevation gain is of course no cat's cough and the views down are quite deep in places (but I didn't look down much). Before the trip the candidate must have already done quite a few ascents with 1000 to 1500 m elevation difference and of course clear ideas regarding their own vertigo. I read a lot before the trip and feared Škrlatica's scree most, but it caused no problems in the wall. The first part of the path in the wall is not steep enough for a slip to be fatal, the second part is well protected so we have secure holds at critical spots. The third part along and on the ridge has the most scree underfoot. However, a safe alternative (rock) can be found for every step, and this part of the path is exposed only in places. I heartily recommend Škrlatica to all who, like me so far, have poked around in "civilized" mountains à la Triglav and want to feel at least a bit of remoteness and wilderness. Ah, and my rating for Kredarica-Triglav versus Škrlatica wall: crawling the Škrlatica wall brings more pleasure, it is worse protected, and technically the difficulties are about even.

Ascent to Škrlatica not so technically demanding.. At some places free climbing 1st or 2nd grade.. Otherwise nicely secured path..

Marked ascent to Škrlatica nowhere reaches 1 or 2 degree difficulty, as technical protections help everywhere. Regards

Hm... I was also on Škrlatica this weekend, first time. And there are quite a few shorter sections where you need to grab the rock to progress and there are no protections. Doesn't that fall under the definition of grade I climbing? Just asking to know what it means for the future.
