Skuta

This morning I wasn't quite sure where I'd go, but in the end Skuta tempted me. I was a bit limited by time, so I preferred to meditate on the top rather than visit another neighboring peak. The weather was wonderful, from the parking under the waterfall to the summit good two hours, in the afternoon mists and clouds slowly started gathering, I would also like to thank two hikers who gave me time in the morning to tie my shoes :-)

Skuta is nice...

@aljazek
Even in mountains one must have "measure". I think Skuta is quite a nice mountain goal and it's right you took time for meditation.
Good luck!

@Aljažek, seems you have tremendous hiking pace, from which parking did you start (Rinka waterfall I assume?)! Then to Skuta summit only 2 hours, hats off! nasmeh

@otiv: sure, always start early (around 6:00) and then (also due to pace) reach summit 1-2h before others...so I have nearly two hours of complete silence, meditation, enjoying view, chasing choughs,... :-)

@CarpeDiem247: yes from parking under Rinka waterfall started. I don't actually run uphill, but constant pace regardless of gradient, no breaks needed.

@geppo: hehehehe :-)

Nice days in mountains to you...and safe steps!

Yesterday 26.9. I did the ascent to Skuta (second time this year) via eastern path - via Streža. No time over the weekend (field harvest) so the vacation was perfect to head to the mountains. Start Kamniška Bistrica 6.30 via Žmavčarji to bivouac under Skuta. From there straight up to marked path to junction, scree under Kranjska Rinka to wall entry. Not too demanding (expected more) nor the ridge as bad as pics show, only from last cable to summit awkward but doable, rock firm good grip. Met a group of guys on the way, otherwise no souls, weather divine. Descent via western easier path, under Dolgi hrbet right after Škrbina wall exit watch out (slip risk), rains washed path a lot. Continued toward bivouac under Grintovec, short stop. At Kokrsko sedlo a nice lady brewed good coffee and descent to valley, parking at 17.30. Super tour though long, weather as said excellent photo motifs no worry about accidentally photographing someone. Maybe one more this year before snow, otherwise next summer regularly in Kamniškenasmeh

Hello,

I'm interested if anyone has fresh data on snow conditions on Skuta. For Saturday planning ascent from K. Bistrica via Žmavčarje. Thanks

Do you think there's any snow up there and "winter" gear needed?
Thanks nasmeh

Go up with crampons and ice axe and check. At Skuta summit height there's half a meter of snow in the Julian Alps.

It was clear and windy on Skuta today, on the ridge Dolgi hrbet-Štruca, when you get up there you need to put on crampons, ice axe in hand, helmet, gloves etc. Without that, no go, it was icy, snow hard. lp

@mountain lover, nevertheless your descriptions with each return from the mountains are becoming more pleasant for all of us. When a person starts perceiving mountains like a real mountaineer, which you're obviously becoming, it shows in the writing too. We appreciate the feat of every individual. Both the one who climbs Šmarna gora and the one who climbs Skuta. Both the effort of the one we overtake and the one who overtakes us.
Congrats on the completed tour and safe steps ahead.

Skuta was quite well visited today. The path from Suhadolnik is without issues, except for the broken ladder on the path over Taška, but it doesn't pose problems. In the upper part of the path it's good to have at least an ice axe, as the snow is frozen. Otherwise it was windy in some sections, and there were lots of chamois along the path.

Pictures are lower quality, as they were taken with a mobile phone (camera flew over the Taška wall).
