Yesterday via Žmaucarje to Skuta. In the upper part the snow is frozen so we used ice axes to make steps. At the top warm and great views. We returned towards the bivouac below Grintovec. In the upper part of the descent to Štruca we also put on ,,those small,, crampons and of course took the ice axe in hand, because the snow is frozen. Great tour. On the path via Žmaucarje we were disturbed that someone quite carelessly marked the path itself with red lines almost on every stone. Unacceptable for pathless terrain. But the path itself is otherwise well visible. Best, A and j

The approach via Žmavcarje hasn't been pathless for a long time. Self-willed hammering though ... tsk tsk.

Hello! Please, can someone from their own experience tell what the conditions are like to the bivouac under Skuta, in winter - snowy conditions. What are the temperatures inside at night - is it bearable for overnighting? Do you recommend a gas stove or is a sleeping bag and warm clothes enough? Thanks for the reply! Best regards.

The crossing from Malih vratc to Legarjev goes across a steep transverse slope and in hard snow conditions is conditionally passable only for experienced winter mountaineers-alpinists. Terrain is also exposed to avalanches from the ridge of Zgornjih jam. With loose deep snow this passage is especially demanding and for many in such conditions only return to the valley or back to Bivouac was possible. Temperatures in the bivouac are much higher than outside, as it's insulated and protects from wind. Warmer if more overnight there. In huts, e.g. unheated rooms Kredarica, Komna... a three-season bag comfort 0°C to -5°C or even double blanket is enough for overnight. For possible sleeping in bivouacs or snow bivouacs we must use winter bag, in snow bivouac also bivvy bag and thermal mat-Armaflex, which alone protects from ground cold. Stove necessary for two-day tours and candle very welcome.

Hm, don't know, maybe I didn't read carefully In winter to the bivouac below Skuta mostly via Žmavcarje, it's also quickly trodden after fresh snow. Rinke and Turska gora are usually trampled too. Without sleeping bag, even for hygiene, don't go. Stove mandatory, at least for melting snow, that's tea. And candle, don't go without candle to bivouac. Though one always finds some there. Anyway, Igor nicely wrote (Prehodavci): one night can be managed without anything.

Viharnik and Turbo, you nicely provided me with information about overnighting in the bivouac, and about conditions in winter time around the bivouac below Skuta. Now I can better imagine the facts around winter overnight stays. Thanks to both for the data! Good luck!

Yesterday from Suhadolnik over Taško and Kokra saddle to Kemprl bivouac and over Velike Pode first to Štruca, then also to Skuta. Met only a couple of visitors at Cojza, none further. From Štruca I spot two hikers descending from Skuta towards Žmavcarji. Upper part of Štruca snowy, snow hard and slippery, caution needed, but doable without crampons, similarly from saddle to top of Skuta snowy, with good soles no problems, but that's purely subjective opinion. Meanwhile Grintavec was "slightly" crowded, Kalski greben too, didn't meet anyone on the route

I really like this bivouac, nice photos and nice day you had. This year I was on Skuta 2x, once I came up from Ravenska kočna, crossed Dolgi hrbet in very strong wind and fog, second time from Kamniška Bistrica on the easier route to Skuta, but without crampons and helmet it wasn't possible.

Skuta - from Konc over Gamsov sekret: Through the forest to the ridge of Kogla and to the waterfall no snow, except narrow tongue on scree, from rock jump (secured part) upwards, over grassy slopes just enough to require caution and proper gear (especially for descent). The path on usual approach under Skrbina is well covered, but due to relatively high temperatures snow was about 10cm crusty, locally breaking deeper, under crampons unpleasant balling. From saddle/Struca onwards well consolidated and frozen. Today it was windy, gusts sometimes so strong it was moving people.

Has anyone hiked to skuta from other direction from turš.zleb onwards? Is that snow well frozen before skuta (nicely covered) - avalanche danger?

Hey redbull, learn to use capital letters, punctuation, genitive, and correctly name the aforementioned gully, then we'll understand each other better...
