To the mountains with a dog?!

On 11.8. I entered this comment: "one really gets sad reading these intolerant comments... LpLj". After it appeared the next one: "DOG OWNERS, OF COURSE. lj", which is not mine. Looks like someone used my initials that I use in signature and thus wrongly supplemented my comment. In my comment I wanted to express disappointment over the intolerance of those who don't like dogs. Best regards to all, Ljubica

When I read your "wonderful" replies like this (some dog haters) it comes to mind, that it's really better to go to the mountains with a dog - just somewhere into solitude so you can "talk" with him and not meet people like some of you... sad.. this .. all together!

I hope and can't wait for my dog, mine!, to at least bite one of you morons once! They can't punish me this time like my best friend can shit in the Triglav area. oh, and one more thing! dogs come from nature, long before vets!!!

I'd give you such punishments that you'd forget walking in the mountains and more. That you soak like this in mountain lakes, hey, just let me see one....

hm ... dog doesn't come from nature. It originates from it in evolution from the past, today it can't survive alone. Otherwise: people, some of you are really intolerant, how do you react in everyday life if something really serious happens? I hope I never meet you in the mountains, because if I politely greet you, you might push me into the nearest abyss. LP

I don't know if I'm so "dumb" or if I really can't find the rule where it says that bathing in mountain lakes is forbidden and that I must have the dog leashed in the mountains

1.Dog must be on a leash on all public surfaces...Except where we don't expect larger number of people. If you already mention laws, let's read them in full, not just what suits you. 2. Whoever compares dogs and children doesn't have it clear in their head. Dogs are completely different beings with different habits, needs, ways of communication. So all of you whose main motto is that we have dogs instead of children, think again and write something more sensible. 3. Dogs only bite! Of course, dogs are always guilty, right? Who of you teaches children to first ask the handler if they can pet the dog? Who of you asks before approaching a dog (awkwardly in all possible wrong ways)? Most owners try to socialize dogs in all environments, but we're not supermen to completely wipe their brains and turn them into monkeys. Nothing surprising, but we humans communicate like monkeys, most of our communication signs seem unnatural to dogs. Fact is, dogs are part of our environment! Just like motorbikes, rollers, cars...let's learn how to behave. You don't jump in front of a cyclist on the bike path I suppose? 4. In Slovenia we have a nice syndrome transferred from media- fear the big black dog, if it has teeth on top it's really horrible! Nice that most articles are based on disinformation or incomplete info..but these articles harm breeds and most importantly limit us dog owners.I personally with leashed dog can't walk calmly in the city because I can hear comments every few steps. And I won't apologize that the dog is attached, walks beside and I pick up after it. That actually has nothing to do with it. Even though I behave according to laws my basic rights are shortened. What should I do? Explode, yell at everyone? Nothing, I just smile, let people give the dog a biscuit and show some trick. Then even the biggest grump can't say anything bad. Best regards, and more tolerance to all. Ziva

DOGS INSTEAD OF KIDS!? I prefer a dog over annoying brats myself. My neighbors' kids already annoy me when they scream and yell. My pup is calm and obedient. It will never be a teen and it is always happy, wagging its tail. So - YES, we have a dog, no kids.

You see how you respect laws, not even the basic one to have the dog at least leashed. Keep it in the apartment, there it can be unleashed and can pee around. You won't clean up for sure, just like you don't in the park, on the street, in the mountains. The main thing is to have a dog. So you can boss others around, show off with it, torture it. When you are threatened, the dog shows teeth. Such heroes.

No wonder dogs are aggressive, all confused and bite. They have such owners, they can't be different. LIKE OWNER LIKE DOG. Old proverb that still holds.

What primitivism! Folks, what's wrong with you?? If you don't have (I won't say what) ... to sign under your comment, then your comments are even more primitive! Like elementary school kids arguing who has prettier handwriting! Everyone has their own opinion and the basis is to respect opinions and for people to talk. And those who insult (us) here and can't bear a counterargument are definitely worse than us dog owners. And now some of you act and insult here, saying that our dogs should pee in the apartment, that Dora should take it to bed ... I mean - what's wrong with you? It seems to me that not just a dog wouldn't tolerate you, but many others. I'm wondering who's the moderator here to allow such things at all! And you obviously call yourselves hikers - shame on you! There are exceptions among dog owners who behave awfully, I agree with you on that, but stop spitting on everyone who writes here in defense of themselves and their four-legged friends! Start a club of those hostile to dogs and everything related to them and spit on each other there! But here, stop with these ugly comments! If you've found this forum as a way to release your daily anger and depression, that's sad enough for you, because you obviously have no interest in filling your time with nice words and thoughts. And now someone will chime in why I'm here again ... I don't really know why I'm defending, but anyway: because I'm just showing my boyfriend where I found our tomorrow's hike in the mountains and I also showed him what kind of people exist in the world - and that on a forum originally intended for discussions about mountains!!! Having a dog, taking responsibility for it and accepting the joy it gives is the most beautiful thing. And that doesn't mean I don't have a family, boyfriend, friends ... And that I torture the dog and don't pick up poop, that my dog bites others, sleeps in my bed (though that would be my problem), that it's fat and untrained, always barks, bothers others ... and I don't know what else! Give it a rest, go cool your brains, just preferably not in the mountains, because I don't want to meet you there! Lp Zala

If you step on a dog's tail, it barks so it doesn't blow you away. Nothing against dogs (they are not guilty, read exactly, at least that). Just don't bother me. Have as many as you want, do what you want with them, just don't disturb others. PL Mojca

Dear Mojca, my comment was clearly aimed at rude statements - I read everything so far before writing. It was not aimed at any Mojca and I think I was not rude at all - if rude to those insulting me (and others), that's a different matter. I agree the owner is guilty if the dog runs around, barks and bites, but I won't let anyone insult me. OK? That's all. Lp Z.

My dog lives with me in the apartment and I respect the law that says I must clean up after my dog (on public areas I do, on fields, in mountains and forest I really don't intend to, since you don't clean up after yourself when you need to go somewhere), the dog is leashed where the law requires it, elsewhere I won't have it unless I think it's good to leash it (wildlife, cows, sheep, small children to whom he goes because they scream so loudly and thus attract the dog's attention) No, we really won't go to Dobrča because there will be traffic jam on the road to Gorenjska, but we'll go somewhere else in the mountains. Why should we have to sleep at home in bed? Why not you? And then you wouldn't bother us when we walk in the mountains? Like on 1000 forums always the same song, anyway we won't get together those who advocate having a dog and those who hate animals. As if the whole world is yours. Pity that not everything has to be your way and from now on out of principle I'll let the dog run free when anyone passes by and I won't call it back to me anymore and leash it for 10 seconds so you can pass. Lock yourselves in your apartment, there you'll have it as you want, without disturbing factors.

Someone or some(without signature) wrote probably "bukova" because no find rules,... No know rules, saw signs dogs ban swimming in lake (Bohinj Lake). Suzana

The one who was without signature back then was me, because I wasn't registered yet, now I am. Nowhere in Bohinj have I noticed that dogs aren't allowed to swim in the lake. 1. there's no sign where a dog e.g. stands in water and the sign is crossed out, 2. that sign where a dog is drawn upwards (the sign is on TNP board) is so weird that you don't know what they want from you at all, whether you must have the dog on a leash or pick up droppings after your dog (the dog is in exactly that position when doing big business), now prove to me what exactly this sign means and explain to me how a person (e.g. foreigner) interprets such a sign, if I myself understood this sign in three meanings.

I accidentally came across this thread, so let me give my own opinion too. I have a 3 year old hunting dog. She goes everywhere with me, to the sea as well as into the mountains. If I tell you she's already been with me to Ojstrica, Mrzla gora, Planjava and some other less demanding mountains you probably won't believe me. And also not that she's going with me to Triglav this year for a full 2 days!! Who would have thought!! She's a hunting dog, so strictly on leash and I have no problems with her. If somewhere she can't descend herself I simply help her, but I must say that it's a medium breed and weighs 15 kg. So helping a 40 kg dog would be difficult for me. Anyway you don't go to mountains when it's 30 degrees, it's unbearable for humans let alone dogs. As for injured paw pads, it depends on what the dog is used to. If it's a couch dog and only knows walks a bit on road and bit on meadow, then definitely after full day tour it will have injured pads. If used to walks all year elsewhere no problem, at least not with mine. LP
