Dogs that are not on a leash are by law an offense that is fined monetarily.....I think it's around 50 euros if someone reports you....but I think these things are not enforced enough here.

Dear Dora.
The sign that dogs aren't allowed to swim in the lake is at the clearing where paragliders land and it's right next to the parking ticket machine. Unfortunately I don't know what that part by the lake is called, and I'm not a local either, so I can't pinpoint the exact location of the sign. We went elsewhere with our dog who was on leash anyway. We have a little dog who moves freely at home in the house and fenced garden. She's always on leash when leaving home environment. Our little dog is from shelter and is afraid of people, afraid of water, so no fear she'll swim in any lake or stream. She likes best in the shelter of husband's armchair and shade under the apple tree. She really doesn't like going in the car either, so we leave her home in care of grannies and grandpas.

Suzana, does that mean I have to walk around the lake to find that sign. We bathed our dog in Ukanc (on that side of the lake where the hotel Zlatorog or whatever it's called now is) and where I bathed him there was no such sign on that side of the lake, and where paragliders land we never were.
Guest who wrote that dogs not on leash is by law offense, it's not true, offense is when you have dog unleashed in public place. On non-public surfaces I can have dog unleashed at will. I can have unleashed even on public place if not expected large number of people. I inquired about all this at VURS so don't lecture me.

public area: town, park in town, sidewalk in town, road in village...

non-public area: meadow in middle of fields, fields, forest (here only the owner of the plot where I have my unleashed dog can chase me, police can't do anything here), for mountains I won't claim but I'll try to find info but for now I consider them non-public areas, if they are public then still not expecting a large number of people so they can't do anything to me again

Dora, you're a bit wrong about who can chase you on meadows and in forests - if a hunter sees your dog unleashed at a certain distance from you, not only can he chase it, he can even shoot it!

200 meters from last house, or away from owner (first warning, second warning) third time hunters can shoot the dog, especially if chasing game.
In 2005 around 600 different kinds of game (mainly roe deer) were killed by dogs and that's in Slovenia. Don't have data for last year.....so boldly into nature without leash, especially when there are game young ones.

Dog owners I recommend read and RESPECT the regulations, then there will be less bad blood, bites, chasing animals, poop, dogs. Don't do and don't think like Dora. they can't do anything to me anyway. Greetings Jana

To get back to the basic topic - dogs in mountains. At home I have a little bitch, who is not at all suitable for a trip to the mountains, for her every slope is already an achievement. So why force her with me in every way, if I know she prefers home. Of course it all depends on the dog's breed. Uncle has a highland terrier, with him he was already on Storžič and Stol, and had no problems at all. He was always one step ahead and happily wagging his tail. But about a month ago I met a girl or rather woman, who was on Tolsti vrh with a German dogo - hello? I really pitied the poor dog, as he was descending the rocks under the summit with difficulty. I had it on the tip of my tongue to tell her something. Or one gentleman who ran to the top with a German shepherd that had its tongue to the ground, just turned and went down. Such people really don't seem to me of sound mind.
Nice day, Taš

reply to Dora
No dear Dora, you don't really need to go around the lake, I saw the sign there only by chance and probably by accident. At Ukanc, or where you wrote you were, I haven't been yet and I don't know if there are signs there. But it is true that on many mountain paths, especially where there are pastures, it often says: DOG ON A LEASH sometimes just a sign with a picture of a dog and leash, so I think it can be clear to everyone what the sign means.

Here you can nicely see what a difference between dog owners. Two nice examples. On one side Taš. Reasonable, cultured, patient dog and people friendly. On the other extreme Dora. They can't do anything to me. Because of such we have bad opinion, because of such are accidents, bites, screams and tortured dogs. (Trips to mountains) Disrespect of regulations, not seeing signs!!!!!. with ban, appropriating terrain. And many other things. Really not good to throw all in same basket, but what when worse examples prevail. Unfortunately for dogs and people. Greetings Draga

Dora and the guest who has a dog instead of children are extremists. Don't judge all dog owners by them.

Dear, they really can't do anything to me as long as I follow the rules; when I break the rules, I'll pay the fine too. Until then, you can just "jerk off here". I have the dog on a leash where it's prescribed and also where it's not, but there is livestock nearby, sheep, screaming children etc. I respect many things; sometimes, when I see that someone is afraid of the dog (then the dog senses very well that you are afraid of it and will want to come to you even sooner than if you pass calmly without fear and glances from the corner of your eye at the dog), I step aside or we go around each other or I hold the dog very short so it doesn't go to people (who already show fear before we meet). I see the signs!!! I always look where they are and what they say, and if it says that I must have it tied, I tie it; if the sign says the dog must not bathe, I won't bathe it either, until then, or like on the TNP sign in Ukanc at Lake Bohinj when you don't know exactly what the sign means (3 interpretations), then I follow my judgment. I pick up poop after my dog!!! Where it's necessary; it would be nice if beggars, grannies who take their grandkids from kindergarten and let them poop behind the first bush (in town) also cleaned up after them, that the same law applied to them. As I say, when you roe deer, chamois pick up your poop behind you (in mountains, on fields..., cows on pastures - does anyone pick up after them? you'll say that's a completely different poop??? Come on, don't be too smart and don't look only black and white, try to see colors too), then I will also pick up after my dog in those places! I will never claim that my dog won't bite (why does it have teeth and muzzle then), but I think there's less likelihood that my dog will bite than stray dogs, dogs chained at home...
Think a little before you start writing here and talking bad about us - dog owners; it's true and I completely agree that we must follow rules and regulations. For now, I do; if not (no one has forwarded me the rules in TNP yet, I read the TNP law and it doesn't say about prohibited bathing in ponds), please give me a link where it says what thing I'm currently breaking (not picking up poop in mountains, fields...) and if I read that it's legally required that I must do it, then I will follow it; until then, I won't. I think I'm one of the few who strive to follow the law (dog on leash when needed, dog training and socialization, picking up poop after my dog when necessary...)
By the way, if you're already "jerking off" here so much, why don't you report to the police what you observe??? Not picking up poop, dogs not on leashes... If the police respected the law and issued fines (not only when a bite happens) but also for not picking up poop, unleashed dog on public surface... the state would have huuuuge money; other owners would quickly buy leashes and bagsnasmeh

Someone wrote that the hunter can shoot my dog. It's true, but my dog never walks more than a few steps ahead of menasmeh Too bad, right, when I have such an obedient and trained dog and when I'm so "arrogant and think they can't do anything to me". When I know that they can do something to me in every situation, then I won't say that anymore.
Statistical data on how many forest animals dogs have killed doesn't move me at all, since my dog didn't do that, I really don't care.
As I already said, if I break the law, I will also answer for damage, action... until then, don't worry about me and my actionsnasmeh because you won't answer for them, so leave me alone just as I leave you alonenasmeh
