Hello! For this weekend I plan to take some colleagues to Triglav. I'm interested if anyone knows conditions from Planika to the top; I mean snow. Is there any at all?
Thanks in advance for reply.

Hello.
I'm also interested in situation towards Triglav. From Kredarica on, because I don't wanna climb just to Kredarica. Plan to start from Zadnjica valley.
Yesterday apparently icy, but they promise improvement.
If anyone has fresh news PLEASE SHARE.
Thanks and best regards.

From Zadnjica to Kredarica I usually go via Vrh, but to go to Kredarica then up, well. Of course it's frozen, it snowed again today, temperature below zero and won't rise much in the next days, plus cold north wind.
fresh pic from Kredarica here:

to the top usually worse. Sadly long hot summer gone and for some this year's train left.

LP - Me too, I'm interested in how the snow is in these cold days and if someone perhaps went these days via Tominšek to Staničev dom and on to Kredarica and Triglav. Thanks for possible reply; Mare, good steps to you towards the top.zadregazavijanje z očmi

In that we set off early morning from Vrata towards Staničeva hut, due to bad conditions we didn't continue further, but turned back to Vrata...zadrega

So it wasn't the weather, but bad conditions, which are of course related to the weather too. Our esteemed forecasters really miss the mark too often. I've gotten used to Italian forecasts, which are quite reliable, because if I relied on ours I'd be more in the valley than in the mountains, but this way I still manage. And sometimes it's good to have a backup goal.

Yesterday probably quite a few of us stayed below Očak, as conditions were really bad for the summit ascent. Janez and I reached Kredarica via Tominšek route. The path from the spring onwards was very slippery. At Kredarica the warden told us conditions are unsuitable for the summit (it'll wait for another time), so we descended to Staničeva. That part of the path was much better, far fewer slippery spots. Back to Vrata via Prag. The sun came out when we reached the valley. nasmeh

Well I didn't stay below Očak today, but ascended to the summit in beautiful weather with colleague Bogdan. Of course as usual from Zadnjica to Luknja and via Plemenice, the upper exit part of Bamberg path is of course already snowy, likewise Bovška škrbina (Triglavska škrbina). From the summit we descended to Mali Triglav, partly snowy and icy, no need for crampons and ice axe, then to Planika mostly dry. Dom Planika and Dolič hut are still open, Dolič at least another 10 days. I advise against ascent for inexperienced.

Hey! Colleague "triglavski", I'm interested which is the correct name for the notch (Bovška or Triglavska) and if you know maybe more about it (when the name originated, since when it's used,..) Thanks for possible answer. Best regards Andrej

Both names are correct. As far as I know it was first "Bovška" (it's facing that direction and from it you can see Bovško polje) it could also have been Trentarska, since Trenta is even closer. Later they renamed it to "Triglavska" but I don't know why, probably it sounded nicer or Bovška didn't fit under Triglav. Otherwise many local names were changed in this way, and presumably it's known who is most responsible for that.

Thanks for the answer, about the "deserving" ones we won't discuss on this forum. Best regards, Andrej

Yesterday I was on our Očak in very nice weather with wonderful views. Definitely recommend access from Planika, snow starts at Mali Triglav, somewhere at the junction to Kredarica. Snow is hard, some spots icy, especially the last ascent to the summit, therefore recommend crampons. For direct access from Kredarica crampons and ice axe are mandatory equipment, as the snowfield is very hard and thus the ascent (even more the descent) is accordingly dangerous.
So go boldly.

The path from Planika to Mali Triglav is completely dry. Further towards the summit there's some minor snow - more for show. From the direction of Kredarica towards Mali Triglav, the initial part is still quite icy. Some go up without crampons, which I wouldn't recommend. On the way back some (without crampons) needed half an hour for a path you normally walk in five minutes. Ice axe and crampons were useful for me. I recommend the variant from Kredarica up, back towards Planika. (was up 26.10.)

Given the current and upcoming weather, it is better to stay home; then the conditions will be completely different.
