Got it, yeah. I know some theory, but it's mostly what I managed to find on the internet and it's not much, and theory and practice are two different worlds velik nasmeh... if you don't have someone to teach you, then an alpine school is almost necessary. The problem with these schools is that doing something like that at the same time as faculty is a bit hard velik nasmeh

Mountain lover, thanks for the informative information. I fully agree with them. Please tell on which F.B page you are, I would gladly join you. I think we were together this year on Kredarica for New Year's Eve.

I've been involved in sports my whole life, previously professionally, now amateurishly with various sports, so fitness is not a problem. In 2008 I also started mountaineering and it hooked me. I started with tours like Mangart (Slovenian, Italian), Jalovec, Triglav (via Plamenice), Skuta... in short, all very demanding ones, because I wanted to find out if I'm cut out for it or not. I also walk easier paths and enjoy them, no mistake, but I have time for those in later years. Last year I attended an alpinism course and I must say it wasn't in vain. You learn a lot and also realize that the mountain in winter is something completely different from summer, when you go along the ridge without worry because there's a path, in winter those paths mostly aren't there, but a smooth snowy slide. If you slip there....
Anyway, this year I also planned to go to the mountains in winter and I admit I don't have much experience with winter ascents, but I couldn't find a partner for some winter climb (time coordination). So I plan to go, when conditions allow, to Stenar, because I saw pictures of winter ascent and it excited me. I would also climb Triglav, but only with an alpinist escort, because the ascent to Mali Triglav seems quite demanding to me. Anyway, the alpinism school will be very useful to you, as you will learn a lot about conditions as well as proper use of equipment (knots, self-belaying, movement on terrain...). I hope you got some information from the "less experienced".

There are many courses in Slovenia. I think almost every AO organizes them. I attended the one at AO TAM and it wasn't in vain. I heard, saw and experienced quite a few interesting and new things....nasmeh

Use the pyramidal system. Experience doesn't accumulate in one season, it takes a few years to learn to live with the mountain. Choose goals for which you are always sure you can repeat them at "midnight in your underwear" meaning anytime. That's how knowledge and understanding grow, and the choice of climbs follows naturally.

I haven't been up there, but as I see on meteo.arso.gov.si, there's quite a lot of snow there now. Actually, there's about a meter more than all winter, on Kredarica it's 235velik nasmeh

Mali Triglav should have around 10°C, I wouldn't tackle it in these conditions, temperatures, not even at night will it drop below freezing so I think an early start wouldn't help you either. P.S. My opinion.

In the mountains of the western Julian Alps, about a meter of new snow fell in the last week, SW wind created wind slabs, especially on the ridge to Triglav, general snow avalanche danger is 3rd degree, considerable, on southern slopes snow gets very wet during the day and walking is very difficult, above 2000m snow on northern slopes stays dry, danger of slab avalanches. This of course not only for Triglav, but for all mountains over 2000m, especially dangerous couloirs where abundant sliding possible. Of course conditions will improve quickly with cold nights, but caution definitely not superfluous, happy holidays and good luck.

Hello!

In summer we aim to go to Triglav from Vrata... I'd ask if someone can recommend a path most suitable (we're not pros...we've been to Triglav...and fitness no problem)
Last year we went up via Rudno Polje - Planika - Triglav - Sedmera - Komarca - Bohinj...it was 3-day tour and great... This year different path...from Vrata...and return to same spot... Want 3-day tour again... Anyone suggestion how? Tominsek? Prag? Know those more 2-day...but we set on 3-day...

Thanks!
