To Triglav?

As you wrote, katty, there are huge variants for enjoyment, everyone should decide for himself how long his tour will last, how fast he'll hike and which peaks he'll plan.
Those of us who aren't fans of sleeping and hanging out in alpine huts, we do day trips. Even though we get up early and drive far and try to do at least two to three times as much walking and climbing as the drive time to the mountains.
But if it's a larger group of hikers with different abilities, then surely long, demanding day tours don't come into play.

Every tip for a tour is welcome and one shouldn't impose one's views on someone who planned the tour differently.
There are tons of info in various guidebooks and online!
Best regards and lots of enjoyment around Triglav!

You can also from Vrata turn a bit to the right and on the first day climb to Stenar and continue to Pogačnikov dom on Kriški podi and sleep there. Second day over Bovški Gamsovec via plemenice to Dolič or via Zadnjica valley to Dolič if plemenice too demanding. Third day to Triglav and descent via Prag to Vrata.

Thanks everyone for opinions and advice!

The thing is now that only a 2-day tour seems feasible...we'll go from Vrata for sure... Considering route Vrata - Tominškova - Kredarica (overnight) - Triglav - Kredarica - Prag - Vrata...now mainly interested in that Tominškova path...some write not recommended or "terrible", then some beginners say no big deal at all...
So far we've been to Triglav 3x no problems...also on the ascent to summit and over Mali Triglav etc...probably Tominškova still easier than the ascent to Triglav summit...?

Thanks!

For ascent Tominškova is totally flat, especially upper part fantastically scenic, but somewhat loaded with scree and requires quite a bit of care, especially on exposed parts. For descent I don't recommend.

My personal opinion, I'd rather go back down via Tominškova than via Prag, although it's customary: up Tominškova, down via Prag.
Via Prag isn't easy either

Look, Janez, no need to rely too much on our subjective opinions. Check a guidebook; I recommend the "mountaineering Bible" - Julijske Alpe by Tinet Mihelič.

Guidebooks usually record the most objective view of individual routes, which can generally be trusted. Downside of guidebooks is they can't track nature's conditions up-to-date.

You know, people didn't arbitrarily start going up Tominškova and down Čez Prag, but because they followed guidebooks. In the above-mentioned Mihelič, it's clearly stated that Tominškova is more demanding (thus suitable for ascent), but there's a warning that Čez Prag route due to heavy traffic and weather over years becomes more eroded and difficult.

Access routes to below Triglav summit head (like Tominškova and Čez Prag) not best to compare with those over summit walls. Differences in length, terrain, protection... Don't mean access routes are easier...

Anyway, boldly (and carefully) step on mentioned routes - you'll enjoy discovering this side of the mountain with its north face and views across lower Vrata!

Good luck!

When is best to go to Triglav?
Some say end of June or start of July, no crowd...others August...
Decided to go up from Vrata via Tominškova...second day down via Prag...
In June (assuming good weather) is Tominškova path normally passable...or still snow?

Thanks!

Best to go already in high season, mid-week, weather-wise ideally when air clears blue after cold front with views.
In June Tominškova and upper Prag may still have snow in places, but now lower wall mostly bare except gullies that fill thick with snow in winter.

With weather most reliable is that weather isnasmeh and this time it was, even without a drop of rain, but quite foggy and windy.
Start Zadnjica - along mulatjera to "Jolanda" then on old Kugy path. Still nicest route to Triglav for me. Snow starts below Plemenice. On ZTP foggy, but doesn't hinder as I know every stone there, even under snowmežikanje. Scree below secured path entry still partly snow-covered, eases ascent. On secured path area between cables a rock slab broke off and partly blasted path, partly buried it. On return cleaned as much as I could, still careful due to scree. Gully below Bovška škrbina of course still snowed, further to summit mostly bare. Descended to Dolič, mulatjera 3/4 still under snow, snow also on whole area of path below Dolič to snow ridge. Snow surface soft, didn't sink deep, but watch icy slabs at snowfield edges.

from Bovec Window onwards it was mostly snow-free5

But on summit in a week quite some snow melted. Like this on Sunday (27.05)

Did anyone go up there last weekend? I'm curious about the approximate situation, especially Kredarica-Triglav: lots of icy slabs?

I was there on Friday. Snowfield between Kredarica and wall entry. No snow elsewhere. More and pics HERE

There's really not much snow left anymore, almost nothing. Interesting, I thought there was more. To Kredarica there's none left either, nothing at all??

The two of us went from Krma, there's absolutely no snow. Those who went from Vrata had snow which started about 10 minutes below Kredarica.

Igor, do you maybe know if there's still snow over Plemenice and on T. Škrbina?
