Domch: Triglav is the highest peak of Slovenia and not SFRY. Forget SFRY already

On Sunday I descended for the first time via the valley behind Cmir and there were no major orientation problems. The path in the upper part is more than excellently marked with cairns, in the middle you descend numerous screes anyway, the last forest part is also easy to follow. You start at the place as already described by PFranci and the path is well visible from above on the left side of the valley.

gojzarji are for wearing out. Mine after barely three years already almost done. But there are indeed already quite a few screes and over a hundred two-thousanders.

What's the path to Triglav via Plemenice like? Any snow? Crampons needed? Thanks for reply.

Plemenice dry as they've been for a long time,, on the Western Triglav plateau you have some hard snow for sure,, but you don't need to go over it.. Further it's dry. In one word: dry conditions. Take advantage of them,, because it's the last weekend before it gets almost too warm. lp

Hut at Kredarica probably closed already, right? Can still sleep on common bunks or only in some winter room?

Hut at Kredarica is supplied throughout the whole winter. Some food and drinks are offered by the weather observers who are up there. Sleeping in the hut is no problem. Go boldly and have a nice weekend in the mountains!

I too admired the views from the top yesterday. Up Tominškova, descended express via the valley behind Cmir. PFranci, we were at the top together. Lp

Looking at the map, I see that the path behind Cmir is not marked, but it's skiable down in winter, right? How much time does the descent take, normal walking, and where is the fastest way from Kredarica? Over Rž, or is there some closer, easier, faster to Stanič. Thanks, lp.

From Kredarica to Vrata about three hours. Can be a bit less, a bit more. Otherwise the fastest path is over the scree under Rž, which are still snowy long into summer. The most recommended in my opinion is the marked path to Stanič, then from there towards Cmir and right into the valley.

I was also on top of Triglav on Sunday. The weather was really exceptionally nice. Since I'm a world klutz, I almost twisted my ankle after the first 20 minutes of walking. But no panic, a bit slower, and it went fine. Some pics: >>> TRIGLAV 19. Oct. 2014 <<<
