As a newcomer on the forum, I'm interested in something regarding Triglav. We plan to go around mid-July and I'd like to know which route would be most suitable. We haven't been to Triglav yet. Otherwise we go to the mountains 3-4 times a year to Krn. What about overnight stay? Equipment? Thanks for help.

I doubt anyone will take you along, usually those who know and trust each other go together. It was like that for me between 2012-15.

Gigi, for the first time to Triglav I think the nicest, not too strenuous and most suitable from Pokljuka. So Pokljuka Rudno polje (where you leave the car) - Vodnikov dom (3h) - Planika (2h). Overnight here (or same day to summit (1h 15min)).
Return same way; if there's will and time, on the way back also to Veliki and/or Mali Draški vrh or Viševnik. Check the map. To both Draški vrh unmarked path (Veliki easier, just walking, to Mali steep and sure step). Check descriptions and pics on forum.
For overnight Planika, or also Vodnikov dom. In July all open, good to reserve. Equipment: will see then. Otherwise good to have helmet from Planika to summit and back because of rocks. Rest like for Krn.
Better to choose not too hot days, as on this route mid-summer sun bakes strongly.

I don't agree with the above comment. Pokljuka path is the most annoying of all. It drags like chicken guts, especially on descent you'll curse on those endless hillocks like a Hungarian coachman. I recommend the path from Kote, sleep in Stanic house. Much more pleasant in ascent and descent. Technically maybe a bit harder, but for average hiker no problem. As for strenuousness, in two days no path is too much. In one day different, but you'll judge yourselves.

Look how different we are. For the Mountain you need to take time, best during the week, of course if possible.
Afternoon by bus to Mojstrana and then on foot to Aljaz in Vrata, like in old good times. Overnight and early up via Tominškova to summit, descend to Zasavska koča. Overnight and next day beautiful "stroll" through Valley of the Seven, past Crno jezero to Bohinj.

And unlike @jax, the path from Pokljuka end maybe really long, but personally pleasant to me. Actually all mountain paths are pleasant, question is only what is the goal?

I went to Triglav twice and a half (half in winter to Planika on touring skis, through Krma.
First time through Kot, slept in Stanič, from Triglav to Dolič, Prehodavci, then Sedmera, then Komna and to Bohinj.
Second time from Vrata via Tominškova then from Triglav back to Kredarica and then to Pokljuka. The last one was the worst, maybe because my knees hurt and I barely made it to Pokljuka.
Anyway the 1st three-day hike left the biggest enjoyable mark in me!

All who are heading to Triglav, start very early. Lots of slush under Mali Triglav. At the end I saved a visit to a super cave for myself

Lukk: regarding current conditions, I rather advise against the ascent. In about a week maybe better, if no rain and more trodden

More in report in next days

Also my view of today's Triglav.
Access to Kredarica is not problematic for hikers or skiers.
To the top conditions quite demanding, especially on return because ridge narrow in places.
Skiing to Kurica enjoyable, then some crust, below better again.velik nasmeh

With the car you get to the end. From Kovinarska onwards, especially from the basin to the end, watch out for deep ruts that water floods in the afternoon. If there are more visitors, a shovel is needed.mežikanje

@redbull, hey ...... have you put yourself together and go see where you slipped?
Good luck on all your paths. That about caution ..... etc., your mom has already told you a thousand times and will again.

PFranci, nice pics. But pic 18 - "in the traverse" is tough. Is that more like "whatever happens", "it'll probably be ok"?
If you slip there, probably won't stop with ice axe zmeden. Or just looks like that on pic?
Well, I know, a bit of adrenaline must be. For many that would be too much already nasmeh

Zvezdan, this traverse is one of the nicer ones. You have to be concentrated, have the ice axe in the right hand and equipped with good gripping gaiters, so there's as little chance as possible that the crampon hooks on the protruding trouser legs.
Good luck!

I admire the courage for the winter ascent to the summit without special protection (rope or roped party). Otherwise I have no experiences in similar conditions, but from the photos I can tell that the walking is quite delicate, as the well-trodden path as it looks traverses cornices too, which can be extremely dangerous. Especially for first-timers who probably just guess rather than know where the actual solid ground is. Not to mention slips on traverses and wind gusts on the ridge...

Maybe I'm wrong and on the terrain itself it's not so dramatic...

Triglav in such conditions is alpinism, so only very experienced mountaineers should head up there, good luck.nasmeh
