Bos, is your tour doable in one day, even without running?

End of August first time to Triglav via Planika. Fitness enough, but little experience with "climbing" part. If anyone can advise for section from Planika to summit - better leave poles at hut and go with free hands? (usually hike with poles, but if many pegs and slings poles just in way, better leave below). Is it smart to have via ferrata set or just "psychological" support? (would need to buy SVV for this tour, but in pics almost all without...). And if someone can judge which start closer time/km (from Coast everything far, choose closest start) - planning from Krma valley or end of road at Pokljuka, hard to judge how "fast" paths once asphalt ends... Thanks!!

Leave the poles there, from Planika onwards you can't help much with them. The climbing part presents no difficulties to the bend where it turns to the ridge; it is not exposed, but the ridge itself is open, although someone who has no issues with exposure would say they don't need SVK. Krma is easily accessible and a suitable starting point for the first ascent.

Kigeot I myself would rather go from Vrata via Prag in your place, given that the goal is Triglav, which is demanding peak anyway. On the way to Triglav you'll face pegs, cables, climbing, exposure, "psychology"... no matter the route. Via Prag you could check how climbing sections work out for you (and don't even think it's some easy training polygon). If there are issues and fears there, then no Triglav for now. If all OK, you can cautiously proceed to the goal. This is purely well-intentioned opinion! Your current route is: - get under the wall with minimal stress (rocks, drops, pegs, cables..); - then up, whatever happens. True, from Vrata it takes more time if going to Triglav via Planika, which is official "easiest" access (difficult route). Vrata start is faster than Krma for the car, gravel road section much better. Parking in Vrata is paid, but not for you, as you'll start before 6 from any trailhead anyway. At least recommend that.

I agree with the description. Parking fee is already before six. From my experience, the ridge from Mali to Veliki Triglav causes the biggest problem for people not used to cables and height, so the path from Planika to the ridge is "easier" than continuing along the ridge to the summit.

I also think Krma is better option than Pokljuka. If you go from Pokljuka, you'll regret it terribly on descent or "descent" from Veliko Polje back to the car, if not before...

Here I think ZeK suggested the best option for you. Pokljuka drags on, from Krma back the same.

Our group also decided we'll most likely go from Vrata via Prag, due to the attractiveness and difficulty of the route, and not around via Triglav lakes as we first thought. We'll rather descend that route. What do you think? Planning now between 10-20 August.

For me the simplest route is from Krma to Kredarica, overnight then attack the summit (carefully) and then down the easier route to Planika and back to Krma. Path from Krma drags a bit especially if hot, but views of surrounding hills nice and if quiet enough you can see marmots. Oh and I also don't like too much exposure, so I use SVK and helmet!

gornik12 that's classic nice tour, up via Prag, down via Sedmera. Especially if you take enough time to enjoy the nature surrounding you. And start really early!

Hi, I have a similar question as Kigeot, just a different route interests me: Planina Blato - over Hribarice - Koča na Doliču - Triglav. What is the path from Dolič to Triglav like? Regarding cliffs, exposure, climbing etc.? Is it suitable for the first ascent of Triglav with little climbing experience? Thanks.

Planina Blato - Planina pri Jezeru - Hribarice, long and at least to me one of the worst routes. But then of course the path from Dolič to Triglav is the easiest, although it has everything that befits Triglav. For the first ascent definitely recommend a shorter approach.

For the first ascent I suggest starting from Krma to Planika and from there via Mali Triglav to the top. This path is the easiest also for descent. From Planika onwards there are pegs and cables, but it is nicer than from Kredarica and slightly less worn rock Good luck.

Thanks both for the info. I have to admit that this route from Planika over Mali Triglav worries me a bit. Despite the safety gear I plan to take, that part between Mali Triglav and Triglav bothers me because of the exposure, openness, depth which I don't tolerate too well.
