I'll attack it tomorrow too. Not all or nothing. If there's really that much snow, I'll skip Triglav. I hope for warm and stable weather tomorrow.

Yesterday 30.07.2010 we climbed Triglav via Luknja, Plemenice, Zaplanjo onwards to summit. We waded through snow up to our knees, lots of water from melted snow, summit nicely whitened. Path from summit to Kredarica almost clear, only from Mali Triglav down watch windblown and compacted snow at pitons. Kredarica clear.

Yesterday on Triglav from Pokljuka via Triglav notch, descent via Mali Triglav to Planika because some new snow over notch. Today morning from Planika to see sunrise on Triglav and it succeeded, really nice, super views. Triglav both days besieged from all directions and represented by various nations. Also those with soles tied with laces to shoe, if you can call it shoe (no comment).

We too were yesterday on Triglav via Tominšek's route, on the summit there were really lots of people and the weather really favored us.

Is the path via Kredarica really much more demanding or dangerous than the path via Planika, for someone stepping on Triglav for the first time and without much high mountain experience? Since we'll sleep at Kredarica, we'll head from there to Triglav the next morning and I'm interested how suitable this path is compared to the one from Planika?

For the ascent itself maybe not so much more strenuous, definitely you go straight into the iron, from Planika not. (But now crowd in all directions and waiting) I recommend return to Planika, because descent easier, gear you can leave at Mali Triglav, at least we did it that way.

I don't see essential difference in these two paths. They say though that from Planika it should be easier...

From Kredarica it's harder to meet on the path and of course harder than from Planika, since it's also marked in the description that the path from Kredarica is very demanding.

I'm interested what is your opinion about ascent to Triglav on Saturday, 7.8.2010. Asking mainly due to not very favorable weather forecast. Plan is in one day from Rudno polje -> Kredarica, back via Planika. Thanks for the answer.

Igor, thanks for the link ... Also interested in opinion whether to go or not? I'll really be glad for any answer from an experienced mountaineer.

According to the forecast, the weather should improve, hard to say how it actually will be. Certainly nothing worse should happen, a shower also shouldn't be too big an obstacle. Given the 115th anniversary of Aljaž Tower erection, it would certainly be fitting to climb up.

I'm interested which path is better suitable for 12-year-old child. Is it path from Planika or Dolič via Triglavska škrbina. I've gone from Kredarica twice so far so I don't know. Thanks for your opinion.

I also used the path from Planika for these needs, although since the issue of Mihelič's "holy book of mountaineers", the "probably easiest" path to Triglav is considered the one from Dolič. In my opinion both are similarly suitable, maybe due to experiencing the ridge and gradual approach (also visual) to the summit the one from Planika is still more suitable. By the way: what if we go up one, down the other. Especially if up goes without problems. Well, from Planika there is another path to Triglav, actually a path variant. The one Over the Leg, or over Triglav notch. At T. notch it joins the Dolič one. But it is objectively harder and less recommended. Probably you didn't have it in mind, although the written could be understood that way.

Tomorrow I'm going to Triglav, via Vodnikova and Planika. Does anyone know the current conditions on Little and Big Triglav - is the path snowy? Thanks. Nice day.

I'm going on 20.8. to Triglav with 13-year-old son. I thought to go from Krma to Kredarica, overnight there, morning to Triglav and then to hut at seven lakes, overnight there and morning over Komna down to Savica waterfall. I've done this tour alone before and think it's nice, just a bit worried about weather. For son would have helmet too, interested how it is with belaying or roping with me, is it necessary, son otherwise good hiker and quite nimble with climbing.

Roping two people just like that, without knowledge and following basic belaying rules, is dangerous for both participants, as it mainly provides a feeling of false security. On Triglav "highways" belaying "in a rope team", already due to crowds, is usually practically impossible. What if they take self-belaying kits (two, for good example), test their use beforehand maybe on home stair railing. There you string a rope that simulates the cable (better such training than nothing). A piece of rope (even a sling), which you know how to use properly in critical situation of course also belongs in backpack when taking kids along. With consistent use of self-belaying on paths to Triglav summit, prepare in advance for impatient people. Good luck!
