Yes really many foreigners, especially on Triglav. Midweek there were so many Czechs on it as if we were in the Tatras. But interesting to observe. Extremely rarely greet first, also hard to greet back. When passing you, they look somewhere at the ground . Characteristic are tall backpacks with all possible stuff, usually sleeping pad on top. They are either very poorly or very well equipped. Interesting also that I rarely meet them in nearby Western Julians and Karnics. Who knows Otherwise it's true that Triglav this year is hit by lightning full on. The ridge is wounded in several places to its red color. Most dangerous point is certainly the piton that got direct hit and foundations blown away. What happens there you can see on pictures. Careful. LP Bagi

Jprim, also judging by the photos, a nice tour. But I have one question: who told you/you all that the barracks are from 1918?

Regarding the barracks we got the info somewhere in the hut, don't remember exactly where anymore because we chatted with many people. If wrong, please correct nicely. Regarding lightning, we had them nearby. That was the first such experience, we were returning from Vodnik hut to start, direction Voje polje, but after about 30 min of path it started flashing nearby. Decision, back, but not to hut, but down to pasture ... we were lucky. The biggest irony was that on Wednesday morning we listened to Mountain Rescue advice on radio, so we knew all theory, in practice we at least this time passed the exam, even though it was just retreat to hut. LP!

Correction regarding the barracks. The construction date dates to the period between 1st and 2nd World War, decade after 1931. Source: http://sl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpski_zid For many years the remains of quality high-alpine construction withstood the tooth of time and weather conditions and would continue, if lately human hand hadn't interfered. Why???

Good day I would ask if someone could give me advice on what a CIRCULAR tour would look like, starting and ending at Lake Bohinj and including Triglav and the Triglav Lakes Valley. Thanks in advance for the answer, Vanč

Good evening!, already from the basic panoramic map you can figure out where to go on the classic tour over Triglav Lakes from Komarča or Komna, via Hribarice and Dolič, Planika Triglav, Veliko polje and descent to Voje valley. How the tour looks, you need to put feet under the path I guess. There are already tons of descriptions and suggestions on hribi.net about mountains. But if you know nothing about paths and mountains, definitely take someone with you who knows the mountains.

How typical. A person nicely asks what would make sense for a loop, so the loop is sensible, without too much descent or unnecessary detours, and gets a reply from an arrogant guy who boosts his moronic ego by giving some contemptuous mush instead of an answer. Thanks Viharnik, you've helped a lot. Now I would seriously ask some cultured person for advice, thanks.

I'd just like to warn hikers - around 10 a.m. my dear and I started from Planika to the summit in the afternoon. We went up in sunshine, there were some clouds, fog, but the forecast for that day was without precipitation. About 10 min before the summit the weather changed in a flash - snow slush started falling, it blew strongly, thunder here and there, luckily not close... I figured it's smarter to wait in the tower or at Staničev dom than to linger on the ridge at that moment, which we did. After about an hour of clearing, when we no longer heard thunder we headed back to Planika. Luckily we were quite well equipped (alu foil, some food, drinks, flashlight, gsm, good clothes, helmet, protection etc.), but the descent was still a bit rushed and due to snow slush and slippery rocks a bit more risky... The experience less pleasant than if the weather was ideal... Experienced Triglav a bit differently, next time I won't go up without an air pressure gauge - but I have a suggestion - informing at nearby huts about current weather (except Kredarica), which in the internet age can't be a big problem. For illustration, on the way from Mali Triglav we met two more foreigners who went to the summit in shorts, even though we weren't fully dry yet and despite warnings about our experience. I don't want to nag, just warning how unpredictable the mountains are even if it's just our dear Triglav, which is very crowded at this time. Good luck! P.S. Excellent rating for the staff at Planika, thanks for all the kindness!

Vanč, with that "cultured person" you charmed me. So I culturally advise you to think about Viharnik's answer, which holds water very well. The first sentence contains a proposal that fully matches even your wishes, which you expressed more precisely only in the second post. Anyway, there's also a similarly sensible "sour milk" variant with return via Fužinske planine (V Lazu, Pri jezeru, ...), which already requires at least some extra ascent (how much depends on the route choice). Everything else are sub-variants. These at least partly include repetitions of path sections (in opposite direction) and/or extra ascents/descents. For circular tours it generally holds that they can be done in both directions. Also for all previously mentioned, which are roughly equal in difficulty and otherwise. Only the section over Komarča (most direct connection between Boh.j. and 7J valley) is in hikers' minds more for ascent than descent. My answer is undoubtedly cultured and general - appropriate to the question.

Prepolc, I can suggest the tour that my wife and I did last year: Bohinj-Voje-Vodnikov dom-Planika-Triglav-Planika, day 1, Planika-Hribarice-7 lakes-Komna-Bohinj, day 2.

I'm just waiting for a nice day. I won't go before that, because variable cloudiness and showers are forecast.

I too would like to run to Triglav from Vrata again this year but I'm waiting for the end of the season and ideal running conditions.

Will it still be ok to go to Triglav in September?

Visiting Triglav is of course possible in all seasons. In principle September should still be a dry hike, but conditions can't be predicted in advance. I myself have never been up there in autumn either.

That's exactly what worries me, like early September snow that wouldn't melt anymore...

Thanks to Šodrovc and jožix for the reply, otherwise Bojan, autumn on Triglav is very nice (almost like in winter ), I was there last year on Oct 1st and it was gorgeous, mists in the valley, sun not so strong anymore and crowds not so bad anymore. Pictures: triglav jeseni (sorry for the slightly lower quality of pics (colors a bit off, but took with mobile))

I believe it's nice in autumn. The problem is just that school starts then and you have to slowly forget about mountains and think about work.

Today conditions were like this- pleasant, despite forecast of changing clouds, chance of showers. Only slightly annoying were gusty wind on the ridge -during the day on ascent and some remnants of evening precip snow/slush. Visitors (still) way too many -foreigners in "Allstar-shoes". Party with accordion at Kredarica (don't support it even though I play it myself).. Nice and warm in the sun. Saw ptarmigan, chamois, marmots. In general, as said in one word- pleasant. LP heinz!
