I know snow is no problem but in winter I don't go to the mountains because I don't have that gear.

Then wait another month. Without gear don't go anywhere.

I'm interested in how much snow is still on the path from Zadnjica via Dolič to Triglav and on the descent path to Planika on Pokljuka! Is winter gear mandatory? We plan to go on this path on 24.6., but we have three inexperienced hikers so this really interests me. Thanks and nice mountaineering greeting!

I assume winter gear is mandatory, given how much snow there still is up there...

mirccar, I'm going 24.6. from Ukanc over Komarča, across the Seven Lakes to Dolič! Second day to Triglav and then to Kredarica and over Prag to Vrata? Also interested what the conditions are like up there!!! Will the snow partially melt by then???

Hello, all who ask if it will, if it will... Who knows? Maybe it will go, maybe not! If you don't have gear, or don't have experience with winter in high mountains, just accept it and start planning ascents in August and September. And don't take this advice as holy, because even in those months it can cool down quickly - even to zero. And a nice and safe step to all.

Who knows? Maybe it will go, maybe not! As far as I'm concerned, prepare for temperatures.. If you're not used to it or have no experience with winter in high mountains DON'T GO. Who knows? Maybe it will go, maybe not! Maybe that means you might not come back !!!! And I'm not writing this just so, but because if it deters even one layman it'll be ok. Someone next to me isn't there anymore..and he's gone forever... Ascent to Triglav in snow is not even a little similar to ascent in dry conditions.

Has anyone gone up through Plemenice recently? If yes, interested how much of it is still maybe under snow ... except the gentle western plateau, of course. Environment agency site says 75cm snow on Kredarica, then you see live pic with only individual snow patches and you're a bit doubtful

I'm going up 04.08., hope the weather serves me/us. Going first time, so baptism. If I reach Kredarica I'll be more than happy, because after those cliffs up to Triglav I'm not even a bit up for it, otherwise we'll see what conditions

What are the conditions in Slovenska smer? Planning around 22.-25.06. to Julian Alps and maybe via Slovenska to Triglav, of course if the conditions are ok.

The conditions are always OK, of course if the weather is suitable and the gear is accordingly. In the Slovenska gully and higher there will still be snow, so the minimum you must take with you are crampons and ice axe... once again as many times before: in summer we adapt the gear to the tour and nowhere does it say that winter gear stays home in summer... crossing snowfields and ice patches is much easier and safer with winter gear... happy ascent and safe in Steni

On 13.6.2011 we three from Krma via Zg. Krma and then via Kalvarija climbed to Kredarica. From Krma at 6.30 to Kredarica a few minutes before 11.00. Path good, mostly dry, on the whole path you cross three to four short snowfields (snow is "rotten"). Due to fog and rain we didn't decide for the summit then, but today early morning after consulting with the duty keepers at Kredarica we descended back to Krma on the same path (rain).

Today early morning at 01:30 I started from Krma, almost to Planika hut I walked in pitch dark, here and there a bit lost, only just before Planika it began to dawn, view to Triglav didn't promise anything good as it was shrouded in thick fog. I treat myself to a longer rest with snack and watch the fog which a bit before half five started lifting, so I decide for ascent to summit, fog retreated before me and when I reach Mali Triglav it clears completely. Views phenomenal to the west without a cloud, path completely dry, crampons and ice axe stayed in backpack, no snow on climbing part not even a trace . A little before 6 I reach summit from which I couldn't tear myself as it was wonderful. Sadly I had to be at work at 13:30 and drive to Maribor is long. Slowly I head back to Planika which is still closed. On way back I meet tons of marmots cooling on snow as sun already strong despite early hour. A little before Pastirska koča I meet today only two hikers heading to Kredarica, wonderful trip ended too soon , but soon I return .
