Maybe best to call the hut when they open. -4C for such wind seems a bit rough to me. If it were at least around 0C.

Well in the end I went a bit later than usual. The wind had calmed down by then, temperature was also quite suitable. Last week, I think Friday or Sunday, it was much, much worse.

Finally I got a bit of winter on Velika Planina... The path from Kranjski Rak was lightly snowy to Gojška planina, from there towards Bukovec more snow, but not more than 20 cm, unless we step into a drift.

Late afternoon I pull an idea from old forum lists. I park at Logar (Krivčevo) and soon I'm puffing up the serpentines. I take the hunting traverse, scare a herd of chamois and at a late hour curse the combination of pleasure of discovering solitary corners and subconscious fear (protections barely holding together in one spot, often slack and my step is safer; part of the path in sheer forest scree has collapsed, so I dig footsteps into the slope and balance with shaky poles I just dug from the leaves; at the saddle I lose orientation and calm my head to find the right variant after 10 min). Well, finally diretissima to Dom na Kisovcu and back on the marked path. In late dusk during the drive back I admire the sheer walls of Tirskie peči...

Obviously the devil took the winters. Fifty-five years ago we kids got fed up with it, it was so long (with snow). From November to April no bare ground in the village, except in front of the house or barn entrance (737 m), now at 1500 m no trace of snow.
Today morning I jump to Velika Planina, in sneakers and t-shirt tucked in. Due to the right temperature and dry ground, I had a real super feeling. At Jarski dom I commiserated with Ilka, who this year just isn't going well.
There was no sun, no wind either, visitors at Soklica were slowly changing, I didn't wait for women's jumps...

no panic We'll still wade knee-deep and we'll still tear it up for joy. Look how it was years, decades and centuries ago and you'll see it's not just today there's a snow crisis
