today the idea was a circular tour matizovec-kofce-kladivo-great peak-kofce-matizovec. when i got to the hut all peaks above the hut were bathing in clouds, so i decided it's better to wait for sunny days for the traverse, and went only to great peak. on the path there's only one very small snowfield (which hardly deserves the name snowfield) that we cross without trouble, but it's located in such a spot that a reckless attempt to bypass it to the north can be deadly dangerous. in today's poor visibility someone who doesn't know the path could easily turn two steps too far north and check out the austrian side of the košuta ridge. at the summit from the spot where the logbook box is nothing was visible. met only 4 hikers. so all the more at kofce.

Today we climbed the climbing path to Great Peak. We started at Vranček (roadside hut), then over Korošica and Hajnževo sedlo to the summit. We descended on the southern side past Kofce to Matizovec, where we had organized transport back to the start. The climbing part is in solid condition, but requires some caution due to scree on the path. The southern side is green, all in flowers. While we met no one on the ascent, crowds of hikers were besieging the peak on the other side. Kofce were fully occupied too.

Yesterday we went over Kofce to Great Peak. To Kofce totally easy, then a bit of ascent, but nice, everywhere full of flowers and great views. Towards the end a few drops of rain. Good food at the hut on Kofce.

zobkiii, That's not far at all. From Kladivo to Great Peak, two hours should be enough. Then it depends on how you plan the tour. If you don't start at Matizovec, but somewhere at Šija or Pungrat, it probably won't take much more than 6-7 hours. My buddy and I crossed Košuta from Košutnikov turn to Great Peak at the beginning of July. That's a bit more serious and it's nice to have 2 cars, but totally doable in one day.

Today to Great Peak via Korošica, where the hut was closed, to Hajnževo sedlo and via climbing path to summit. Weather was wonderful. Climbing path is shady and therefore very slippery. Plus scree on the path makes it worse. Because of that I chose longer variant for descent, which I didn't regret in the warm sunny weather. From summit wonderful views, over Begunjščica all the way to Julian Alps.

Yesterday early in the morning I visited Great Peak with dogs. Specifically low cloud cover up to about 1600 m, then band of clear sky, towards summit foggy again. Snow conditions ok - very little on path, quite some on summit - just right to go even with decent shoes ok. What's a bit annoying is icy surface practically everywhere on ground (fog, temp below zero) - descent requires caution because slippery. During day probably no such problem.

Today I decided to chase away the foggy weather in the valley and headed to Great Peak. Crampons were quite a nuisance, as the snow stuck very much. From the top to the valley in short sleeves, snow melted quite a bit on the way back.

Some simple instructions to some obviously completely clueless hikers who head to Kofce (and Great Peak) with dogs. Exceptions of course excluded and praised for etiquette. 1.In public dogs belong on leashes, especially in such a crowded spot as Kofce and surroundings on a dry sunny Sunday. 2.Average hiker XY by default doesn't go to the hills to play, pet, sniff and deal with your dogs, so dogs at latest then belong on leashes. 3.Average hiker XY even less goes to the hills by default to lick and chew his sandwich together with your dog, so then your dogs already absolutely necessarily belong on a leash. 4.If the dog goes on leash only when hiker XY loudly and rudely yells, you're already too late and you've obviously completely missed the explanation of the "dogs on leashes" rule. Hov(wgh)!

From Matizovec over Kofce and Toplar to Great Peak. Wind, fog, frost. Don't remember when I last froze like that.
