I don't know what irresponsibility that is, my dog runs to others and just sniffs, as happened in our encounter. I think that's normal for dogs. If anyone's still interested I'll say what happened. Anuk was walking ahead of me as always and spotted her pups before me, I didn't see them in 40cm snow. He ran to them and sniffed them - normal. I had my dog off-leash just like her (she saw Anuk because he's much bigger). I always carry a leash too. And that's all that happened between my dog and hers and now I don't know what irresponsibility that is. It can happen to anyone.

Really unpleasant incident. I understand everything and it's clear to me. Just like we all know two dogs, especially if a pair, means the male protects the female. MajaO you reacted wisely, from dm72 I'd expect at least an apology and thanks for reacting correctly. He has a big dog, how does he plan to raise it if he doesn't know words like ..sorry and thanks, and in his explanations you're almost guilty of everything. I have a little dog too and if she runs to people not used to dogs, I at least apologize. We know the saying about owners and dogs.

Oh VanSims, I understand you and agree with you on many things (I myself carried pepper spray with me on walks for many years), just don't put us all (=dog owners) in one basket.

I don't want to argue with you about this anymore, or discuss (majao), because the forum is for mountain conditions not such things. As pohodnik11 and others already said, you're always right anyway, know everything and know all about everything.

@Nanook: Maybe I wasn't clear enough: responsible and irresponsible people - responsible and irresponsible owners. Further I wrote that positive and negative traits show in the attitude. Example from yesterday's walk: I'm walking on a street and a little dog (chocolate brown so I won't fail the breed again) runs up, first sniffs me then starts jumping on me. Lady tells it to stop and then (which happens once in twenty cases) even apologizes. Well then I said it's ok. Negative trait: negligence. Positive trait: admitting own mistakes

I hope this forum won't become like our parliament's atmosphere, give some respect and tolerance among yourselves, we're different and that's life's charm . Turbo sadly left us already .

I don't have a dog myself, but I always gladly read your contributions. Some of the best are from dm72, as besides clear, concise descriptions he also posts wonderful photos. Majina's blabbering is becoming a boring, unfinished story...

Everyone has their own mirror in this world, the difference being that some occasionally tidy up in it, others leave it completely dusty.

Maja, I don't understand how you bother wasting energy on such unimportant things, unimportant people full of negativity who really enjoy and relish other people's incidents. You know, the smarter one quits!

Another incident from last year when I went to Triglav: At Vodnik hut I rested a bit, on the rocks nearby some other hikers were sitting. Then the back door of the hut opens and some woman (caretaker?) lets the dog loose among us. The dog runs around and starts sniffing us. Well, I tolerated it somehow, could have chased it away of course but didn't, when it sniffed the girl next to me she said, scared: "Oh I'm so afraid of dogs." And that woman just stood there by the door grinning at us all. Yeah, we know the hut keeper's (keeper's) job is stressful, tiring and some recharge their energy for work this way, others by messing with guests by not issuing receipts or slipping them something and charging,... No thanks to such keepers!

When I look at your comments about dogs, I see how far today's hikers or mountaineers have come. I'll throw a bone to gnaw on. I know, I'll get scolded and insulted, but please this is my personal opinion. A decade ago almost no one took dogs to the mountains, today it's become some kind of fashion. Dogs DO NOT BELONG in the mountains! If you asked a dog, and if it could answer, probably none would go on a hike! So guys and girls, leave your pets at home where they belong, in the doghouse, kennel or bedroom
