I'll just say it like this, fear people, not dogs! @Anya, what a beauty

@Anya, what two beauties. I agree with you, they would brighten my day too. How pleasant it must have been for them, having snow in abundance all day. @zdomec, everyone has the right to their opinion. But, that a decade ago dogs didn't accompany owners to the mountains, that doesn't hold. I already have my fourth cocker spaniel and on suitable hikes they were all with me. Of course, a dog doesn't belong on a wall and I didn't take them there. Usually the dog knows where the owner is going and when I pull out the backpack it's already at the door. Why would it wait at home locked up, when it also likes to stretch its paws. But why argue again and again. It's on the owners to make sure dogs aren't a nuisance to others. And on the (non) lovers, not to raise even a single hair as soon as they spot a four-legged companion somewhere. There's enough space for everyone ... people, animals, plants.

@pipe: with animals it's like with people. Basically you like them but as long as they don't want anything from you or you don't see them as a threat. Then you just defend yourself. Otherwise yeah, I like animals. Not just dogs but in general. And true, as @luky68 said, you should fear people. Behind every aggressive, attacking and unsocialized dog stands its owner. I'd really like to greet him with a defensive spray but that wouldn't help much in a dog attack. With the mentioned dog from Vodnik hut I didn't use the spray, because I thought due to the crowd of people it probably wouldn't do anything or if it picked me it would just be bad luck. Besides we were sitting closer together on those rocks, the dog was wandering between us sniffing everyone individually and I could accidentally spray someone else. @zdomec: Dogs basically are for the mountains but with good equipment, good handling, walking with them on suitable paths and proper attitude of the owner primarily towards the dog itself but also towards other people considering also those who don't want the slightest dealings with his dog. @Anya: really cute dogs! Samoyeds right? I agree with @Irina too. That was at St. Jerome below Nanos, right?

I don't know if hribi.net is a site where we should discuss dog problems and insult everyone indiscriminately. We have legislation that regulates coexistence with four-legged ones, whether it's bad or good I don't know but definitely better than none. If followers and opponents followed it there would be no problems. In short hribi.net in my opinion is not a site for furry troubles, there are probably plenty of cynological sites and handle such problems there where people deal with such issues. lpMarjan

The troubles of the furry ones let the owners solve on their sites. But the problem is their owners, if they are not aware of their responsibility for coexistence. No law or regulation will help them realize their duties and obligations and thus overcome their egoism and hatred towards fellow humans. Such an attitude towards people, as the owner shows with her dog in the aforementioned article, unfortunately manifests itself also in her own living environment and it's not easy for her close ones.

Sadly have to say that the dog owners in the other video that Maja linked are really irresponsible. One might say dogs running free in winter somewhere 'off the beaten tracks' and nature sleeps then too, but otherwise it's irresponsible towards fellow hikers and also towards animals (chamois visible e.g.). And they seem even stronger breeds to me. Is the accompanying music track really coincidental?

Sorry, but where do you see anything controversial? Two dogs playing, always around the owner, no other hikers visible anywhere. Those chamois didn't feel threatened either. Meaning they were probably quite far, chamois usually flees before you see it. I think here the dog owners don't have problems, but those who can't see beyond their own ass. And really I don't understand why hikers who go to mountains with dogs shouldn't exchange info on this forum. Isn't the topic title WHERE TO GO WITH A DOG?

@BorisM: Val Comugna, Sella Giaf. Godforsaken wilderness, oh boy. I was there alone for two days, the only hikers I met (at the end on descent to San Francesco), was a couple with a German Shepherd that dived at me and I had to use force. Owner was nearby though. And who would've thought I'd see a chamois on the path from Srebotnik. Some 50-100 m away. And really pissed off too and showed no intent to run off, so I went super carefully past it. If I'd had a dog, let alone unleashed, let alone two harder to control... Got the point? Anyway you weren't serious right? "no other hikers anywhere" - yeah it'd be really perverse to film his dogs jumping some hiker and post it.

You know what, you have issues already seeing a dog on screen, let alone live. What if what if, think you need to watch the video again, I see nothing wrong there.

In Kot Valley, the barking of two dogs could already be heard from afar. After about 15 minutes, I finally caught up with two hikers and two unleashed dogs that were barking all the time. I expected a peaceful walk and at least, when passing by, the owners would tell me they are friendly; I never know what kind of dogs they are. Last time, for example, Martuljek Falls, the dog owner – thank God – had it on a leash because the dog was jumping.

True, thank God... Dogs have rights just like all the rest of us. Sometimes it would be necessary to put some human on a leash and not the dog!

And then do people also have the right to sniff other people, slobber on them, growl at them, bite them,...?

Dog must be on a leash on the mountain trail, like mine is, as the rules require and as it is right. In mountains let ibex, chamois be loose, loose dog surely doesn't belong there, if not already because of people, then because of chasing wildlife.

I know a villager who fears dogs and when she spots one, bolts like a fox. The sign says it all, dog walking areas are elsewhere and there are plenty. Myself not afraid of dogs, man's best friend, in Kot hikers don't expect dogs. Juš, but this flies at me again, if you think I hike so wildly in hills like then to Kukova Spica you erred badly, went to Kukova recently up the trail, stopping, observing around.
