What are the prices in other AO? Today I was at AO Kamnik meeting, price is 500€!

No wonder almost no one in walls if such prices. In past you queued under nice classics, now say under Ojstrica wall, perfect day, no one in wall. This way only sport climbers remain, high altitude walls deserted. What about voluntary work in societies? Doesn't exist anymore? That covered equipment costs, mainly ropes.

AO Kamnik is its own story....

500 is of course only for those over 26, under 26 about 250 EUR. The 50% difference annoys most, because they want to work on youth... like positive discrimination. So no one would complain if the price were say 400 under 26 and 500 over.... and the wall you can use 2h/day (20-22) costs 40 EUR monthly. Are you crazy....

If we look differently. If you take all school group trips and mountain guide prices... school is much cheaper. True, many schools cheaper overall. But AO Kamnik is known as one of better sections....

Voluntary work? Inflated prices?

My experience:
Sport climbing schools around LJ (Kamnik, Domžale, Ljubljana,...) about 150 EUR.
Sport climbing school in Žiri: 15 EUR for students, 20 EUR for others.
So no doubt on quality, school even "sponsored" state exam at Sport Climbing Commission. At others you pay yourself.

Nothing is like it used to be. In other words, nothing is free anymore.
That older pay more, I don't see anything wrong. Of course, if school must be paid!
Older probably come to section to train and then leave. True, if young also pay, they probably don't feel obliged to section.
In the past after training you felt obliged to give back with work or training students. Ropes bought from voluntary work income, travel costs shared among tour participants. And that's it!
If now pay school, then not obliged to do anything for section anymore? How does belonging to section look then?
Sport climbing school more connected to facilities, artificial walls, competitions, normal not free.

300 EUR or 500 EUR, both downright usurious... I know, take or leave but hello.. At time when 3/4 Slovenians on survival edge... Speechless.

Prices vary a lot, sometimes the price for students and employed isn't much different. 500 is really extreme. Anyway, if you can't pay 300 euros for the school, how can you even afford gear...unless you already have it, in that case 300 isn't that much.
I don't think it's a fair opinion, like older folks just want knowledge and then leave. Probably lots of young ones are like that too, who come but don't know exactly what they want, older ones probably know what we want...
I think you don't just get knowledge, you can get a lot more. If you want it, of course.

@Lunca 300 euros you can pay in 2 installments. If that price was half then many would enroll.

Prices are usurious everywhere - rarely under 250 €. It is worth checking what you get for that price.

Hey, 250 € for the school isn't usurious.

Say 3 lectures a month throughout the whole year
+ approx. 2 group hikes a month
+ insurance
+ some offer gear rental for the duration of the school...

Usurious?
Who of you would be willing to do it 4x a month (of which at least 1x a full day) for one school year for 250 €?

Not cheap, because some of us have to drive far too, plus you need alpinist gear besides crampons and ice axe that you can't rent. I think most don't have time for evening lectures in the distant AŠ. Good for those nearby.

Well, the distance of individuals isn't really the alpinism section's problem. Sure, some have bad luck and have to drive farther than others. You have time if you make it. 250 seems a normal price to me given the knowledge you get and all the options included. Gear is expensive anyway. It's all on a voluntary basis. LG, believe me, others have other "problems", we'll solve them as they come. It's a matter of decision mežikanje

Well, regarding gear, it's gradual anyway. To start, you don't need much - harness and some small things (a couple of prusiks, slings and carabiners, belay device - ours was still a figure-eight, I don't know what's used now). The rest comes later, gradually. As for winter gear, I don't know; ours (AO Nova Gorica) allowed rental.
Otherwise, I have to admit that regarding how much the alpinism school gave me, I have a largely different opinion. I got some knowledge, insight into another world, but really just an insight. Climbed a few routes, left with some nice memories and a bunch of gear, and that was mainly it. If we meet someone today, we say something, drink a beer, but that's all. They went on, I gradually dropped out.
Maybe the problem is that the alpinism school shows a person where their limits are. Hiking trails are made to facilitate passage, and as long as one doesn't leave them, a deceptive feeling can take hold that basically they can do everything. But once you're in a real wall, without bolts (except those on the harness) and markers, you quickly see where you stand.

Yeah, MajaO, bless you, that's all I can say... I myself damn well struggle month after month with all the expenses and damn tiny income, with a job that doesn't allow any extra work or I'd damn hard find a side job because no one would adapt to my schedule and because that little free time I have, I can also rest. So far, it has never been laid out with roses for me, and it's not about whining, because despite everything I'm happy with what I have. It just gets on my nerves when someone lectures me, someone who obviously never had to deny themselves anything, who had everything shoved up their ass at home, plainly said, and who simply doesn't know that nowadays it's really not easy for most people. This isn't aimed at you, MajaO, because I don't know you, but as for not telling you what's too expensive, know that we will. And how we will.

No, really not, but giving opinions on the price of these alpinism schools, yes. You started judging those who think differently.

Why are you arguing about some prices, which from my personal point of view are quite a relative matter.
From everything invested, say material things, the most important is what a person takes away from some lectures, teachings, sports, virtue trainings, spirit - martial skills, world visions, healthy nutrition... Money isn't what enriches us, it's our good idea, money is just some coupon that brings you closer (not necessarily) to the desired thing you've decided on. Usually it's like this, if you buy cheap, there's little music too, similar to cheap food that harms us in the long run, then medicines for illnesses cost much more than if we had enjoyed quality, diverse food from the start.
Finally nowadays we can't talk about cheap services anymore, but we can choose between our spiritual nature, proper orientation and that sought-after spiritual satisfaction.
As in our Sahaja yoga the divine says, money is just a means to make someone happy with a gift and thus show the person respect, appreciation, affection and friendship.
Be aware that man himself is the greatest wealth and treasure, the better he is aware of it as he gets to know himself and grows spiritually. Where e.g. can you buy something to feel on some mountain sensations like only you do, in a very special moment, time and space...winking

The alpinism school is simply an educational process led by qualified people - Alpine instructors. The path to this title is quite long and demanding, and the Alpine section invests quite some money in training such staff. Subsequently, the AIs are not some volunteers (those times are irrevocably gone), but professionals who pass on their knowledge, which is also appropriately valued or paid for.
Due to all the above, and more besides (purchase of shared equipment, literature, additional training, license renewals, guest lecturers), it is completely appropriate that the AS is paid for. And in a way, participants prove they are reliable candidates and intend to seriously engage in the activity. Thus those who are just after a fad drop out at the start.
Regarding the difference in payment by the system younger less, older more, it is completely acceptable and understandable. The fact is that it is more effective to shape a young person into a climber or alpinist, prepare him appropriately for psychophysical efforts and introduce him to the world of verticals. Of course this doesn't mean older ones are unwanted. They come with more developed wishes, but the dropout rate is usually quite high. I estimate that the reason is also of a social nature. But it's always nice to have some slightly older trainee in the section, because then the young ones also learn a bit of courtesy, respect and some mannersrolling.
I hope you understand that the essence of the AO is climbing and socializing with similarly minded-functioning people, and that the section cannot sustain itself without quality climbers in terms of their own development. For that it needs young, talented people who don't mind spending time, energy or money. Well, not too much about the latter. We cleaned chimneys, factory halls, were maintenance on skyscrapers, some cleaned silos, painted power lines etc., so we could buy equipment, flight tickets etc.. So I quite agree with @MajaO: if you really heartily want something, you're willing to do a lot for it.

best regards d
