The alpinism school is simply an educational process led by qualified people - Alpine instructors. The path to this title is quite long and demanding, and the Alpine section invests quite some money in training such staff. Subsequently, the AIs are not some volunteers (those times are irrevocably gone), but professionals who pass on their knowledge, which is also appropriately valued or paid for. Due to all the above, and more besides (purchase of shared equipment, literature, additional training, license renewals, guest lecturers), it is completely appropriate that the AS is paid for. And in a way, participants prove they are reliable candidates and intend to seriously engage in the activity. Thus those who are just after a fad drop out at the start. Regarding the difference in payment by the system younger less, older more, it is completely acceptable and understandable. The fact is that it is more effective to shape a young person into a climber or alpinist, prepare him appropriately for psychophysical efforts and introduce him to the world of verticals. Of course this doesn't mean older ones are unwanted. They come with more developed wishes, but the dropout rate is usually quite high. I estimate that the reason is also of a social nature. But it's always nice to have some slightly older trainee in the section, because then the young ones also learn a bit of courtesy, respect and some manners . I hope you understand that the essence of the AO is climbing and socializing with similarly minded-functioning people, and that the section cannot sustain itself without quality climbers in terms of their own development. For that it needs young, talented people who don't mind spending time, energy or money. Well, not too much about the latter. We cleaned chimneys, factory halls, were maintenance on skyscrapers, some cleaned silos, painted power lines etc., so we could buy equipment, flight tickets etc.. So I quite agree with @MajaO: if you really heartily want something, you're willing to do a lot for it. best regards d
