We started at the church in Trenta and climbed to the hunting hut at Utra. From there to Plešivec, a bit back down to the scree field, under the walls and up the grassy gully to Pelc summit. From there mostly along the ridge to Srebrnjak and descent from the top straight down steep grass and scree to the forest left. In the forest then endless mule track to the valley. Of course then another 5 km back up the valley to the church. The day was such as I haven't had in a long time!

Pelc and Srebrnjak - my big compliment. Even locals don't see these two much. Devilishly beautiful peaks, not to say hellish

Volk, you really had great weather. Nice pic - thanks! That ridge (probably eastern) I still have in plan. Haven't been to B. Grintavec yet.

Prokofjev, nothing else but to agree. Dprapr, yes, the photo shows the eastern ridge, checked it quickly today. At first glance it's pretty sharp ...

Hi! Has anyone been to Bavski Grintavec recently? Planning to go from the Soča spring. How's it with snowfields? Wouldn't want surprises. Regards David

I went only to Kanjski Pass and up to there no problem. Almost no snow. Maybe 4 steps on it. Higher up also didn't see much snow. So it's probably passable for sure.

If anyone plans to go to Bavarian Grintavec via Kanjski pass I warn that some pegs are not tight enough and as such don't serve their purpose well, self-belaying is recommended. Otherwise they are firmly in the wall, no fear they'll pull out, but you can't really hang on them as your center of gravity can quickly shift 1 meter from the wall. Helmet is mandatory, as the terrain is very crumbly and stones often fall spontaneously.

Does anyone have some pictures from Bavski. To see a bit the state of the mentioned pegs etc. Is the stamp still at the top?

Mountain fairy tale above Trenta! Up steep crumbly gully to Sravnik and along NE ridge to Bavarian Grintavec. Ridge enjoyable, gully to ridge crumbly as it gets. Due to exposed spots and crumbliness some details surely deserve higher rating according to tour participants than in published descriptions.

Today finally on Bavarian Grintavec. This is a mountain that has all parameters to rate it as Difficult mountain. Views good, was with nephew already at 9:30 on top.

The path took me past Cerkno towards Tolmin, Most na Soči and on to Bovec then to Trenta, where I headed to Bavski Grintavec, up the easier path, down towards Kanja saddle, below the summit full of scree and on ascent and descent it flies down, protections somewhat worse in places (just need to tension them), a few more pegs, path over Kanja saddle much harder than the other, then I climbed neighboring peak Zagorelec and returned via the other marked path but it gradually disappeared so I went back via a gully to the big stream bed then to marked path, finally checked out the waterfalls all to the upper one...back past crowded Vršič (crazy how many cars motorbikes) and on highway to Lj.

The path from Kanja saddle is beautiful, some new cables, old ones somewhat too loose but ok for (mandatory) belay. A bit higher unprotected climbing on ridge. Also via difficult to summit over extremely crumbly spots - carefully and slowly! Suggest (admittedly long) descent via south slopes to Soča and hitch or cars back to Zadnja Trenta. Due to objective dangers and technical difficulty the path would deserve higher respect. SUMMIT BOOK at top is FULL. Lots of beautiful, solitary and safe pleasures!

With my boyfriend we yesterday via Kanja stepped on the top of this mountain...with awe, as we read a lot about the fragility. Already the adrenaline entry into the wall announces that there's no joke here. Tricky is that you don't see the first belay at first and think 'where now'. We sweated up exhausted, down was tiring on the 'easier' path. Very dangerous descent. But we are very proud of ourselves that we conquered it . The view is super.
