@serznoz, there is a difference, sure there is: BEFORE: you can't tell the first (experienced or pretend experienced) anything, because you're commenting from the armchair and have no clue. The second (inexperienced) won't listen to you anyway, since he doesn't even know what you're trying to say. DAY AFTER: The first gets unlucky - like anyone anywhere. The second only has himself to blame for rushing into it and idiotically endangering rescuers. WEEK AFTER there's no difference anymore. Both are in the same place and rescuers quietly cursed both for having to expose themselves because of them. AFTER THAT: We're all still smart here in our own way, we roll the tape back to the start every time and nothing changes haha

I wouldn't comment on the feat itself cuz I'm not that much of a winter hill-climber, though I know the avalanche scale and dunno why the heck they went on the path at avalanche level 4. As for the helmet: lending someone your helmet in that situation exposes your own head to dangers, that's no camaraderie or chivalry but plain stupidity. Whoever doesn't have a helmet for such a tour should wait in the valley or hut, doesn't matter if forgot it or didn't know he needs it (especially in the latter case).

Ha, ha, Slovenes, Slovenes (I think not even all hot-blooded guys are), you all know me, you've been spitting on me for three days, unfortunately I'm half Slovenian too and I'd be very ashamed (disown) of my mom if I knew you were all like that ....... (I won't name you since I'd be the same as you but I don't intend to). I know that most Slovenes are OK. You're very brave since you have your identity hidden. Very brave! At this point you've discussed everything possible only not what it's intended for. No one asked for the current condition, ha, ha,,,,. The avalanche sign showed second and third level but that doesn't mean you can hike. Pictures often deceive so snow and avalanche conditions can't be read from them. My assessment was that this route can be done even though I might really be "potato", but that's mainly my business and my friends who went with me. We were well equipped, namely we all had avalanche transceivers (complete sets), the helmet doesn't say everything as some of you latched onto it. One more thing: All you hot-blooded guys, I know you go to mountains mostly alone but one of the rules of safe mountain hiking: Don't go alone! So I wonder who you're lecturing! Hot-blooded guys, pull yourselves together, I'll organize a two-day FREE etiquette course. Hard to say if it'd help you. But such mountaineers as you, hatefully puffed up, aren't welcome anywhere neither in Slovenian nor world mountains. Best to lecture at home. You won't shame the Slovenian nation. In the end I wish you all Happy New 2014, lots of successful hikes in the mountains.

That you have an avalanche trio doesn't mean you can go to the mountains at such a danger level, idiot. Spin your shit however you want. I have no reservations and I'm not anonymous. I say what I think without reservations. Especially I hope such strong hill climbers as you soon gain some sense. The one who liked your post might benefit from refreshing their knowledge a bit.

If they have decided so, then they have; it doesn't interest me what someone does in the mountains, but when I see into what all and over what some go/descend ....xxxxx..... all for adrenaline. Warnings about levels are well-meant, but that doesn't mean one couldn't walk at least in the desired direction while it's still relatively safe, even if only to the snow-covered tree. Some time this year on the road I lost 4 hours of driving without reaching the summit, and I value that more than reaching the snow-covered summit everywhere. But the best comment that caught my eye was from the mountaineer Slavko22: I myself go to the mountains so as not to reach the summit over my limits, simply turn around even if I did 150 km to there.

What if we all together ended this bickering now? Many of you have expressed your opinion, as always everyone has their own right. I won't state what I think, since everything has already been said, and someone would immediately grab my words. New year is at the door, let's cheer up a bit and that's it.. Happy New Year to everyone in 2014! P.S. Any national intolerance on the forum must not be allowed in any case!!

If someone jokes a bit at the expense of our dear neighbors, it doesn't mean it's national intolerance yet. Lots of luck to everyone in the coming year. Also to Croats, or especially to them, since they say who doesn't have.....

Sorry if I'm repeating myself, because I just quickly skimmed all the wise talk and outrage, which is already quite tasteless and typically Slovenian. Croats surely made some mistakes, surely they have already debated them among themselves. You only recognize conditions when you're on the terrain. All wisdom gained from the couch helps nothing, you need to feel the terrain, then you decide how and what. The "theoretical" conditions in which they climbed don't bother me, because actual conditions can be locally fully acceptable. Obviously in this case they were safe enough. A helmet is an individual matter and how much you value your head. What mainly caught my eye was their group's advancing style in the vein of, if an avalanche catches one, let it take all in a row. In such a case it makes sense that one goes ahead, others from a safe spot watch his movement. Happy and safe in the new year.

The reason why we all have so much to say against their doing is generally that they didn't endanger only themselves - in case of an accident GRS would rush to rescue them, so with their stupid doing they endangered also the rescuers who would help them. For me let anyone in mountains do what they want, as long as they endanger only themselves. Yes, typically little-Slovenian. Elsewhere they would be quiet. All world citizens here.

Regardless of hot debates, I recommend myself for info/opinion regarding crossing V ridge of Begunjščica (descent via Y gully or Central) in current conditions. Is it to be expected a more or less iced ridge or an endless "fight" with scrub? Route description: http://www2.arnes.si/~mcuder/vrh/veliki_vrh_b.html

Conditions in Y gully. Snow at top dry and firm, below wet and fragile. Climbed Y gully specifically right direction. Enough snow. Also fog, visibility only 5 meters. At top of ridge cornice, not big, but there is.

Conditions in "gentle" gullies very dangerous. Wind blew snow into windslabs and slabs, slab can release even on minor load. Other steep routes nicely cleared of new snow. In these snow fully transformed pure squeaker. Today climbed Kozorogova, after first two pitches in dry rock and powder fully filled jump at transition to exit gully. Gully also "slab-risk" start to end. Exit to ridge tricky due new snow but old snow below holds well. Descended Ostržkova, phenomenal except slab windloaded whole upper gully part. Due slab descended with rope rappels to last flank unroped to Spodnji plaz. Zelenica area few cm fell but wind into slabs big slabs forming. Whole climb light snowfall moderate wind. Equipped Ostržkova descent path one anchor, twice rappelled on ice screws. Strongly advise against "gentle gullies"(Y, central, Lenuhova, descent) for a while until also these gullies are windblown by new snow. Zelenica light on at ZNATNA, without experience and knowledge advise against gully ascents. Few pics for taste.
