I had that old Spectrum model in my hands at the Kastelic service. I thought it was some wide softie, but under the hand it flexes like a joke, which doesn't happen with much narrower Volkl, they are much stiffer. Don't know how it behaves if you take the Elan on hard snow, god forbid frozen.

@viharnik Spectrum 105 is a soft dila, but you can ski everything with it. Even very steep descents and even on a frozen-like-concrete base... ;-) Only "bashing" in really narrow and broken gullies this dila doesn't like. But skiers don't like that either!

@Simon Thanks for the answer. Especially the last part I like, for my better half...

Up to Planina little snow, then a bit more. You can walk without crampons, trail well trodden, top ambiance - fairy tale!

Viharnik, I've skied the Spectrum 105 for two seasons now... I still adore it. It really is dila with which you can ski ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. The front part and small tail part are soft, the middle part is stiff. It also depends on which model you had in hands, but the ALU model is stiffer than regular. Mako, no problem.

Maybe I had really those without alu reinforcement (greens). They were totally soft on twist and probably would chatter quite a bit on hard snow like that. Volkl which I ski now much stiffer even than Dynafit, over bridge barely flex, real dila for all conditions in mountains. But get used to everything in time.

Some of us watched this descent from Zelenica and I can only say it was a pleasure just to watch! At least three more descended after him.

@viharnik I have Spectrum 105 without ALU. And I have no problems. Both your posts on this topic are purely from memory and without proper skiing experience. Previously I rode Elan 888 (also freeride skis), which were extremely hard/stiff. And they performed worse than Spectrum in steep terrain on hard bases. A hard/stiff core that "bounces" you off the snowpack at steep slope and turn with jump on hard base and steepness is certainly not desirable. Such skis have an advantage on broken snow base; they go like a tank there.

Hi all, of course avalanche danger is considered, but personally I rely on myself more than on general warnings. I monitored conditions for this line all week, if it had been too dangerous I wouldn't have gone to the top. Approx. 10 cm fresh snow fell on the previous slightly harder layer. Mainly it didn't bond up top. But the lower layer was more dangerous because it was slabby and adhered poorly to the frozen 5 cm layer that formed last time when there was a little drizzle. In the compression test (CT) this layer released after 17 hits on the central slab, so I decided to continue. Best regards, Simon

Yes, true, Janez, the post disappeared soon after I sent the reply. Enough commenting, let's get back to the snow, to nature.

I deleted it earlier, before some start philosophizing about a topic that doesn't belong on the portal. I repeat my question: The main thing is good gear and enjoyable skiing, but that warning on the sign about level 3, nobody heeds it. Simon, for whom probably the mountain rescuers or someone who did CT 10m above the snow-covered road or somewhere in the middle, above that middle conditions can change significantly. If there is a warning, even a general one, it is heeded, because otherwise the sign is senseless or just for decoration.

Juš, you've surely seen from the mountain rescuer on FB, how one goes and the others follow like herd instinct, I wasn't there yesterday, I was on Krn.
