The path from Zelenica to Roblek or Begunjščica is dry and without peculiarities.

CIRCUIT AROUND BEGUNJŠČICA

Since a nice day was forecasted I wanted to make the most of it. I've been to Begunjščica many times but always from Ljubelj, so after a very short night I drive to Dom v Dragi (689 m). At 5.30 I start hiking towards planina Prevala (1311 m). This part of the path I walked for the first time. In my opinion some scrambles, six stream crossings and a wooden ladder make it very interesting. I also like the solitude, as I only meet first people at the hut on planina Prevala. Now the real steep section begins. Unfortunately Kalvarija is still as steep. On such a nice day lots of people gather on Begunjščica, considered an easier two-thousander, so I decide today's main goal is Begunjska vrtača (1994 m). After a nicely spent hour in solitude observing nice views, I head to the main summit of Begunjščica, Veliki vrh (2060 m). Since the summit was already well "occupied" I don't stop and continue towards Roblek. At elevation 1790 m the path branches to Zelenica, where I turn. This section is marked as difficult path, so careful on sections. In morning dew need to watch damp rocks which are quite slippery. Also crosses some scree. At dom on Zelenica (1536 m) it was bursting at the seams. Just yelling, people and dogs, so I bypass it widely and continue to the hut at Završnica spring (1425 m) which I prefer. On way to hut I meet older gentleman picking flowers with wife. After pleasant chat with Kranj guy, I treat myself to delicious eggs with cracklings at the hut (mask use in hut mandatory). After refueling, descent towards Tinčkova koča. At 1260 m path branches to Roblek where I continue. To ridge below Roblek path is quite steep, so climbs in switchbacks. Less crowded and along way alternate wonderful views to Stol, Vrtača and Završnica valley. At Roblek (1657 m) I was glad as it meant end of "joy in form of climbs" for today. Weather favored Roblek visitors, on Stol dark clouds gathering. After longer break continue descent on soggy path to Poljska planina (1180 m) and planina Planinca (1136 m). At latter I turn bit off path and check nearby Lovska koča. Path to Draga from Planinca more monotonous as mostly on wider cart road. But knees happy with pleasant incline. In end good 19 km and bit over 1800 m gain in 9h (of which 6h30 walking). Nicely spent day in Karavanke.

To celebrate the end of the school year we went to Begunjščica last week. We overnighted at Roblekov dom and thus extended the tour to two beautiful days. The first day we started early in the afternoon at Ljubelj and climbed past planina Preval and via a very nice path over Roža to Roblek. Evening and night were quite windy, but luckily the wind calmed in the morning. After summiting we returned along the ridge to the junction for Zelenica. This was followed by crossing the northern slopes of Begunjščica. From Zelenica we descended straight down the road back to the car and closed the loop.
Initial part of Born's path still before the tunnel1
Before Preval pasture a real labyrinth of tracks has formed since my previous visit2
Excellent food at Preval pasture3
One of hundreds of screes we crossed4
In the gully at Roža full of large buds5
Pear pie before sunset6
Bled close-up7
Comfortable warm room for the night8
Chair in the morning9
The summit slopes drop far down10
Another group has just arrived at the summit with us11
Mountaineers have also taken Vrtača12
The northern side of the mountain is much more scree-covered13
There are also some ascents in between14
First time there were no loud crowds at Zelenica15
A little more, and the loop will be completed16

Nino, that "dessert with Milka chocolate" at Prevala you get if you order struklji with chocolate. velik nasmeh Just overcooked dough, but eating struklji in mountains is terribly trendy.... zavijanje z očmi

Well, for me the cheese struklji at Prevala are the best far and wide. But I order them without chocolatenasmeh

It's not about modernity; about a month ago I saw these struklji somewhere on the forum and wanted to try them. It's true though that the chocolate in the end comes out everywherenasmeh.

Homemade tarragon strudels are the law, not those from cheap ingredients in mountains and huts, reheated in microwaves. Homemade compote too. Lp!

Not wanting to turn this thread into culinary, but I can't get past this generalization, since it's basically about Prevala strudels. They make them from cottage cheese from milk of cows grazing on the pasture. And if you're not really lucky that they just cooked them, you wait nicely 20 minutes. So neither from cheap ingredients nor reheated in MW.

Today first time on Begunjščica. Start from Ljubelj, via famous Bornova path to saddle Prevala, from there via Kalvarija and ridge of Predvrh to the top itself and then to Roblekov dom, from there back to saddle Prevala - Ljubelj...where a fine for unpaid parking was waitingsullen look I parked next to other cars right at the start. And I wasn't even paying attention to any signs that it's paid. Well now I'll give Tržič municipality 10 times the parking fee embarrassed

Path to Kalvarija pleasant, varied with known tunnel and narrow path. At about 3/5 of the way last storm apparently knocked a mighty tree onto the path, so you have to hop a bit over the fallen crown.

Kalvarija is really steep, even some scrambling in between. No panic going up, but coming back I was a bit worried because the path was partially wet in the morning - risk of slipping on return. Then ridge crossing from Predvrh (among sheepbig grin) to main summit, which won't suit those with vertigo and uncomfortable feeling due to exposure on both sides of the goat path. Quite airy. Well, at least such paths are not exactly my cup of tea.
So I head later to Roblek and do a partial loop. And I didn't regret it. Wonderful views all the way to Upper Sava Valley and Julian Alps.

The summit itself really brings a smile, views top. Almost no wind, but you could see to Snežnik in S, Krn in W, Grossglockner in N (N-NW) and KSA in E. What all is in between these extreme points, you probably knowwinking

Recommend visiting this mountain to all who haven't been big grin
Born's path... almost flat.1
Tunnel entrance; just before the tunnel a chamois races into the valley and triggers a small gravel slide. It appeared from nowhere....2
In places the puddles are quite deep.... up to the ankles.3
Newly felled.4
At Prevala and the junction. Left to Roblek etc., straight to Kalvarija. Summit top left.5
Steep, steep.6
With me in the direction of the ridge predvrh-vrh.7
Poser. The only one that didn't panic, even when I got right up to her.8
Brother and sister dominate. Between them in the distance Grossglockner.9
Evola. Snow for export.10
Julian Alps,11
Kanjavec and Triglav,12
Mala and Velika Osojnica ;)13
Roblekov dom was not packed today... yet.14
I didn't think they ever mined manganese so high up. And right here.15

Begunjščica from Ljubelj. Up the central gully where there were steps, narrow part hard, above steps again. Moderate breeze on top. Didn't stay long and descended via Šentanski plaz. Met two more going up there. Fresh snow 10-20+ cm
