Today up the Main Couloir and down Šentanski plaz.
In the late morning I was surprised by the sun, which I didn't expect according to the forecast. So it was almost noon when I stepped on the snow, friendly lit by sun rays. Surprisingly, on this crowded mountain I hit a moment when no one was visible on the entire plaz. Snow up to below the last station is compact but soft, higher up dry, excellent for skiing and walking. On the slope below the couloir it sank max to mid-boot, mostly less, here and there I happily used footprints of one or two predecessors. Rather rarely though, as snow mostly covered them.
The narrower part of the couloir is nicely filled and hard, but not too much, footprints were barely guessed here. Exit to the top is relatively unproblematic, no major pitfalls here, but there are some elsewhere. Lots of snow, no rock with summit markers visible from here was seen on top. From the area of the mountain hut at Zelenica loud folk entertainment music was heard up to the top. When the sun disappeared behind clouds, it quieted down.
Descent on Šentanski plaz starts on some comfortable wind-packed shelf on the left side, looking down. I stuck closer to the edge as I wasn't quite sure how stable it was, then diagonally crossed right under the rocks and continued in the usual direction. Snow sank a bit more here, sometimes even somewhat unpredictably. A bit before four I was at the former ski slope. Afternoon post-shift ski tourers were eagerly climbing it. Quite a lot of them.
Weather varied: sun at start, then fog, high clouds and some northerly wind on top. On descent, already in the area of the former lift, a small snow squall rushed from who knows where, luckily calming in a few minutes. One ice axe and crampons make sense in these conditions, two ice axes in the narrower part of the couloir aren't superfluous either.
All in all unfortunately short, but the day was actually great!
