Yesterday "swam" the Y gully. Conditions are of course appropriate for the date and temperatures - water. Snow starts at approx. 1700 m. For big fans maybe it holds till the weekend.jezik

Hello!

Next week I plan to conquer Begunjščica. Interested in the road to Tomčeva hut. Passable for passenger car?
Thanks for reply and nice mountain greeting!

Why ruin the car, Ljubelj is also one option for ascent to Begunjščica. mežikanje

And that's a very good choice. Up over Zelenica, back via Bornova path. Nice circular option.

From Ljubelj through Bornov tunnel to Preval and via Kalvarija to Veliki vrh. Down to Zelenica. Due to yesterday's rain soil and rocks on the south side are wet. Otherwise nice. I met quite a few hikers too. And sheep were not missing.

17.8....Draga, Luknja, Preval, Begunjska Vrtača, Begunjščica, Roblek, Draga - nice circular path. Over Kalvarija wet and slippery. Also towards Roblek damp soil and rocks in places. Begunjščica has very steep slopes, but views all the way. nasmeh

In 1/4 family setup, morning hop to Begunjščica. Up through tunnels to Preval and Kalvarija. Down straight via central gully. Otherwise sunny, just some clouds on top.

On Sunday, 24/11/2019 I headed to Begunjščica. The forecast was promising, but... when I reached Dom v Dragi it started raining. I parked a bit higher and said whatever happens. Well, it stopped raining soon, so on Planinica pasture I already hoped for the best. I continued past Tomčeva koča on Poljska planina and stopped at Roblek. It was quite foggy and after a short stop I went to the summit anyway.

Snow starts at 1850m asl and although visibility was almost zero, one can follow the tracks. The last 100m elevation are quite demanding. Snow is heavy and wet, but due to wind also a bit frozen. So we get a demanding path where sometimes you sink a bit (especially on descent), sometimes slip a bit. I ascended without winter gear, descended with ice axe.

Past Roblek to the summit, snow for crampons starts in the last cca 100 m.

Yesterday with my sweetheart we parked the car at Dom v Dragi and cheerfully strode uphill towards the sun. It peeked from the fog on Planinca pasture. We continued past Tomčeva koča to Roblek. The path was icy in places, towards the top also frozen. On the road I think yesterday one could reach Tomčeva koča with any normal car.
From the hut at Roblek we continued to Begunjščica. The slightly snowy and icy trail is manageable well with a little caution. Crampons on in the last 200 m. Due to inversion the snow on the last 100 m sank quite a lot and much caution was needed, especially on descent. At the top we stayed quite a while in great weather above sea of clouds. Views unique. There were some visitors too, mainly to hut at Roblek.
In the valley before night, satisfied with the day slowly fading.

From Ljubelj past Zelenica to the top and back via Bornova. Up to Zelenica no panic.
From Zelenica to junction with Roblek path wind-blown snow (occasionally up to waist in snow, regularly to knees), crampons fix, ice axe optional. From junction with Roblek path to top probably doable imo even without crampons. From top to Planina Prevala crampons probably mandatory (some went without, but some sections really slippery icy, later real southern snow, the sliding kind). From planina to start muddy as expected.
Peeked into gullies and all visited, footprints in them deeply imprinted due to wind-blown snow (such fun conditioning tour must be before you grind to gully top).
