Does maybe someone know what the conditions on the path are like? Planning to go on Sunday:
Thanks for the info.

@tomko

I went yesterday up the north side (central gully) and back down the south (via Kalvarija to Preval).

Snowfields on the north side still have lots of snow, which is, at least in the morning, still hard, so no problem (with winter gear, of course) to reach the summit and back down.

The south side is, as seen in the picture above, already almost completely bare. On the path via Kalvarija there are just some small snow patches in unexposed spots, so I didn't need crampons there. Otherwise, until you reach the forest, the path is all muddy and shitty (sheep dung that froze in winter is now melting eek). Yeah, not too pleasant, so if going south, maybe better via Roblek. The mud can be avoided in some places, but unfortunately not everywhere. Since it slips easily on mud, you have to descend very slowly and carefully.

Anyway, your decision. mežikanje

Today I was on Begunjščica, up Šentanski avalanche. Conditions on slope ok snow frozen. Only below summit in sun a bit breakable no panic. Quite some people up top. Back down central gully, soft snow below summit in gully lower hard packed.

Started at five a.m. with headlamp hoping for a nice day. At Zelenica hut dawn was just breaking, me up central gully to top. Seems this route to summit is closing for season (at these temps), already in morning quite breakable, some spots still concrete. Enjoyed view and warm sun on top, on way back same path met some mates too.
In the morning glow the desired path is visible1
No, that's not a shooting star but an airplane in the morning sun2

As the predecessor described, there was a nice sunny day up there yesterday. I climbed the central one, for the descent I chose Šentanski paz. Around 10:00, when returning, I almost "skied" down Šentanc with crampons, such are the conditions there.
But on the top I met a guy who came from Begunje via Roblek and said that the path there is already fully dry.
Just before the exit to the summit, such chimneys threaten1
This one always positions itself in the exposure2
Can't go without them either. They live in pairs - always!!!3
This is how the exit from the central looks4
this however is the descent to Šentanc. The first 20 m is quite ....5
... then quickly aside6
Avalanches carry this with them here7

Yesterday on Begunjščica from Draga past Roblek hut. Path to top fully dry and bare. Just bit below summit still trodden ca. 10m patch of south snow, but can avoid it. On ridge yesterday windy, otherwise super tour.

Also path from Draga via Preval to Begunjščica and past Roblek back to valley is dry. Today fantastic weather, just bit windy but not bothering at all. At Roblek today and probably still, full action (accordion, singing, joy, dancing,...)!
Enjoy all and safe!

On Saturday (9.4.11) at 6 from Ljubelj to Zelenica and up the central gully to the top of Begunjščica. Snow conditions were quite good, just windy occasionally. No excessive wind at the top, so I enjoyed two hours with nice views. Descended the same route, stopped at the hut for a beer (friendly hutkeeper) and descended into summer at Ljubelj.

On Saturday 9.4.2011 we had a wonderful trip. We started from Ljubelj, through Born tunnel to Preval pasture to Roblek and from there to Begunjščica. The weather was wonderful, snow only on top for decoration. We returned the same way and at Roblek had a real partyjezik. Really super!

Some don't need to go almost anywhere, because we live far from cities/settlements, in prealpine world.
In 20 seconds I'm in the densest forest with thick trees.
