What about the self-image of people who, because of THESE people, go even faster?

gti, we didn't understand each other or it wasn't explicitly written. I, when thinking about something else (not the path or related), walk even faster. If you saw me, you'd know I'm the last one hurrying because of someone else.

Dear runners! Nice that you share your "successes" in the mountains with us, but let me warn you that this is a forum on the topic of current conditions. LP

At this point I have to correct colleague Bojan who cited wrong data, namely the current Slovenian record is still held, and will most likely remain for some years in the possession of Andrej Mesner, that Maribor guy, who I think ran to the top of Grintovec in 2002 in time 1:21:17. Colleague Simon that distant year 2006 a bit "messed up...", namely if someone below the summit told him how close he was to the record, he would have sped up below the summit plateau, so most likely he would own the record, but as it is he's forever second. Time has gone on. These are official times, every individual (mountaineer) due to own impulses hurries to the top, with stopwatch on or without it. That's his personal decision. But nagging every one with your records on this forum isn't appropriate either...there will always be a "fool" faster, more skillful than us (you)...

I agree! I think it was you, geolog79, who once opened a thread where the above should be discussed, titled "Why do we go to the mountains at all?" latter on p. 9. On p. 8 under lists there's another interesting topic: "Inner feelings and experiencing mountains". For those who like discussing mountain running (sport), in the forum list you can find the section "Mountain running". Unfortunately for now there's no forum here dedicated to those who go to mountains to experience themselves there. (so-called "summit conquerors") Here - we should talk about Grintovec and the condition of paths to it..

Dear youth or youngsters! ...I see and read that we, a bit older, will have to re-educate you at least a little so you'll one day understand what it's for. For such useless ranting find some other page. Best regards.

... you can tell a couple of days of bad weather ... Otherwise let everyone write what they like, as long as they don't offend others... letters on the internet are dirt cheap.

Žan, even on the internet you express your culture and obviously belong to that youth, since you jumped in quite quickly. The proverb still holds: If you step on a cat's tail, it squeals.

Why does it bother you if results are posted? It interests me a lot, and probably others too. If you're not interested, ignore it.

Obviously many people like drier statistics like: - pitons - OK - cables - OK - edelweiss - not flowering - logbook - OK - stamp - OK rather than adding something more or just that. Do we want such a "current conditions" forum?? And then someone posts conditions from three days ago and there'll be shouting again because some will interpret "current conditions" differently. I completely agree with the previous one - find the data that interests you and ignore the rest. You don't read every letter from first to last in the daily newspaper either....or do you??

Time is certainly important in the mountains too. All guidebooks state that everyone can orient themselves according to their own abilities and still finish the tour on time. Unfortunately this year it happened too many times that hikers, mountaineers or whatever they were only started descending in the evening hours, accidents including fatal ones happened around 18:00 or even later. Several times it was necessary to help the exhausted even after 22:00. Also 4 "experienced" – I would say youth without experience – got lost in fog on the western Triglav plateau. Of course nothing serious, because otherwise they would call 112, but they called the hut at Dolič, because they knew it's better to sleep warm (obviously didn't even try to find marked paths), than squeeze between cold walls of Morbegna, although that experience would probably benefit them more in the future. In short, not to make a proposal, you need to start the tour early, afternoon thunderstorms and fog can be quite nasty too and of course choose the goal according to your own abilities. There are too many who overestimate themselves deeply. But if someone gets somewhere a bit faster, nothing wrong, that way they can go further and experience more.

Well logically time is a very important piece of info, not the times with which we compete, who is faster. We already concluded once, everyone according to their abilities. LP!

To Igor's post I would add one small thing: if for example for some summit it says reachable in 4h, but you've been walking 6h or 7h already, you're very tired, and the summit isn't really close, the only smart decision is descent. Maybe even an hour earlier. Too often it's forgotten that descent is also part of the tour.

"pulsatilla grandis", if I'm not mistaken, right, jprim?? on Grintovec there weren't any to be seen or I was so fast that I didn't notice them

At your age you still have to be fast.

pasque flowers bloom very early, so you could see at most "seed pods".

|
|
| jprim8. 09. 2010 15:31:14 |
Now I don't know which ones you mean, they bloom at the same time, just that spring adonises finish their flowering and vegetation quite quickly, pasque flowers you can find even 2 months later, depending on the location. Holds like nailed, or like a dog runs.
