Hello. Nice weather forecasted for the weekend. So on Sunday I'll head to Grintovec. Wondering if anyone was in these parts recently and how snow conditions are, and if winter gear (crampons, ice axe) is needed or not. Thanks. Lp

Deliberately didn't describe path conditions, thought there was nothing to say. Maybe general info: fog lately lingers in mornings from ~800 m and afternoons to ~1200 m asl. The feeling of cold in the fog is somewhat stronger, but it quickly disappears when we step out of it and the warm sun shines on us . Start from Suhadolnik, which was right on the fog boundary, and then the harder route towards the summit (recommend helmet use on both harder and easier paths). Interestingly, on the descent in the afternoon (14:00) the path from Kokrsko sedlo down the gully was covered with hoarfrost (in the morning it was DRY!!!) and greater caution was needed, especially to the site of the old hut, then also from the path junction to the treeline. No snow on the path, just at the summit and below it there are some small patches that we can easily cross. Otherwise the path was frozen but dry. In the afternoon the fog rose about 200 m higher and no friendly ambience awaited me at the car, so I "happily" sped down to the valley below the fog line

"Gathered company" greetings! Does anyone have any info on what the path (snow?) from the Czech hut upwards is like... Up to Mlinarsko sedlo?? Anyway... thanks... nice weekend... also in the mountains

poncoeltoro: I don't know the conditions lower down, but I'm attaching pics taken from the top of Grintovec towards the Czech hut. From the top I walked a few dozen meters towards Mlinarsko sedlo, the snow was compacted; if it can't be avoided, crampons and ice axe are definitely needed.

Parkeljc maestro thanks. See the pics... well God probably looked before, I'm an idiot. Well... the snow there is probably easier to avoid from Mlinarsko sedlo up to the top than on the "Frišauf path" to the saddle, where I think it's impossible. We'll take another one... Well then the Kremžar path to Kočna is also snowy... probably???

Nice tour, Parkeljc! True, if you can't avoid snow, with current conditions in our mountains winter gear is essential! Lp!

I would agree with you "poncoeltoro" and your last conclusion. Kremžar path to Kočna a bit more sun-exposed, so probably less snow than other side under Mlinarsko sedlo where no sun at all

Nothing much about conditions, path dry, Grintovec quite visited this morning. On return went to first bivouac towards Skuta. On way to bivouac three frozen snowfields but not big. In this sunny day views wonderful as for some time this autumn.

Very crowded today too. Path from lower cable car station to Kokrško sedlo and further bp, up 3 hours, down 2 hours. We walked 1.5 hours with Mr. Andrej from the top to the hut at Kokrško sedlo and said goodbye there. Also public thanks for giving me 1 dcl of water and that dcl carried me in half an hour further down to the cable car. Warning on the road condition at Žagana Peči. Park right at the parking lot behind the rock, because further there are huge holes on the road surface. Still don't know how I got through with my Polo (yes, really was a disaster!!!), but I know I made a big mistake. p.s. pictures from phone

On Wednesday I plan to go to Grintovec via Kokrško sedlo and Streha... judging by the upper pictures there is not so much snow anywhere that crampons would be needed? As far as I follow the weather forecast it says only nice weather on Wednesday around 2°C. lp

Today on Grintovec from Kamniška Bistrica. As said, really "summerly", dry on the path, at the summit just a light breeze Nice tour for training, only the summit logbook has obviously been eaten by a goat ... Lp!

Today we were with Matej and Pipi on Grintovec from Suhadolnik via SE ridge (locally over Dolge stene). Such a nice scree route, which was sprinkled with fresh snow. Otherwise it doesn't exceed I. degree but in such "Scottish conditions" something goes wrong quickly, so we got stuck a bit, that's how it was. Snow starts at the notch 10 minutes walk from Kokrsko sedlo. The ridge is quite nicely sprinkled so we used winter gear. At the summit we were (sorry Pipi, we were) 5 minutes alone, then a forum member surprised us with his visit. We already thought we'd be the only idiots up there in such weather (vice versa ). Well, obviously there are more of us who wait for perfect conditions. We descended via streho (crampons not needed) and went straight to beer! Fog, fog, fog, fog, it was cold but nice! Aja, it was blowing too, quite strong! PN pictures, climbing partner
