Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has been to Grintovec these days, what are the conditions, need for winter gear? Planning to head to Grintovec on Sunday, any info would be appreciated.

Red bull, of course, you already know... short shorts and low shoes plus fanny pack eek through snow over ankles zmeden

Eh poor thing, if you go a bit faster uphill than others, that doesn't mean you're... velik nasmeh

redbull, I meant if crampons, ice axe, snowshoes are needed.. no need to attack and belittle someone right away.

Mariborcan89 - obligatory gaiters, crampons, ice axe for Grintovec. Summit can have quite some snow, given temps also ice, frozen snow.
Better prepared than hoping gear won't be needed. Especially now in winter.

Yesterday the snow conditions were quite demanding. On the usual path there's no more than half a meter of snow, but it kept collapsing underfoot. The snow is wind-packed and smooth. Since I was first the path wasn't completely clear, so sometimes it collapsed to the knees, sometimes you were destroying crampons on rocks. Snow also regularly stuck to the crampons. For the path I took twice as much time as usual.

I'm interested in the road condition to Suhadolnik and where approx. on the marked path towards Cojzova koča the snow starts. Thanks, lp

V Koncu - Grintovec (via Streha)
For this route, I'm interested in what equipment we absolutely need, are crampons enough? We plan to go on Saturday 29.11, and when do you recommend leaving home in the morning?

lp
which crampons do you recommend?1

Both. Some for the feet, others for the hands... When to leave home in the morning depends on how late you sleep in the morning.

Those crampons aren't exactly the most suitable for the ascent to Grintovec. Of course without an ice axe up there you have nothing to seek!

Yesterday I went from Kam. Bistrica to Grintovec (via Streha). Snow starts at the last ascent before Kokrsko sedlo. I had both crampons and ice axe, but didn't need them. Also all others I met mostly used only hiking poles.

Yesterday it was sunny up top and snow was melting, so gaiters were really handy. I think the forecast for the next days is a bit worse and it'll be icy up there. In that case crampons and ice axe would come in quite handy.

From Kam. Bistrica I started at 10 and returned at half past 5, because I went up and down a bit faster... It would be wise to head up no later than at 8...

and can't poles somewhat replace ice axe?

Crampons fully suitable for hikers.

Ice axe though, because poles in case of slip are more hindrance than help!
