@Davide37 - if you don't have at least such crampons as "nailed" by JanezSeliškar, and if you don't have a classic ice axe... Then I assume you wouldn't know how to use it if you fell... Then I strongly advise against even thinking about an ascent to Grintovec in winter conditions. And poles ABSOLUTELY CANNOT, never replace an ice axe. You can go to a ski slope and throw yourself once with poles and once with ice axe. You'll see what I mean

No, really, I have no experience with hiking in mountains in winter conditions except hills to 1500m... we were already sure enough to go, now I think it's really better not to go we wanted to go a bit on snow haha

Grintovec already in nice, sunny, dry conditions is quite a challenge for about 5 hours one way. In winter easily one or two hours more. Not to mention that it's really not cool if you fall "on the roof" if you don't know how to use ice axe Surely somewhere easier, closer and especially safer to get to snow

Just buying winter gear doesn't mean safe hiking in winter conditions, you necessarily need to know how to use it. Go somewhere safe and practice a bit then start thinking about ascents where such knowledge is essential. Every year they organize courses and trainings, worth attending if desire for winter tours. Grintavec can be very dangerous for slipping in winter, not always ideal conditions Good luck

I agree with mukica. Too often it happens that just buy crampons (maybe ice axe too), MAYBE reads, looks how something should be used. On relatively flat terrain with crampons somehow can walk without "instructions". When slope then different story. Not speaking of stopping with ice axe. Grintovec definitely not for trying if it works for you or not.

If not sure of yourself even after "instructions" MAYBE not recommend Grintovec, maybe only Little Grintovec everything too relative...

Today with Milan and his four-legged friend to Grintovec via Jame. Conditions good, or we expected a bit more snow, since on the normal route over the roof full winter gear isn't needed in these conditions. At the top the sun even shone at times, there was just some breeze (15-20 km/h) Report: http://deyangrm.blogspot.com/2014/12/grintovec-cez-jame-71214.html cheers Dejan

Deyan congrats on your ascent, but taking the dog along in such conditions is a bit harsh, no hard feelings and safe steps ahead l.p

Well they didn't take a chihuahua Husky, planšar and similar don't even go to the doghouse at night when snow falls.

Bojan79, in such conditions the dog can slip too and go to the other world if you didn't know

Congrats. Regarding dogs, just so much that some enjoy snow and winter more than summer.

I agree, I also have a German shepherd who really enjoys snow. I don't know, to me such a tour seems too strenuous for the dog given the amount of snow and ice. l.p

Those who probably don't have a "mountain" dog don't know what joy it gets when it sees snow. Probably some pit bull or Maltese would have tired paws long ago, when for example the mentioned dog just starts enjoying. Such dogs are made for nature, something thank God is in their genes and the rest. So don't comment if you don't know breeds and haven't seen the joy that real dogs have in the mountains. Almost there, and they'll accuse us dog owners that our dogs are hole-diggers and destroy the ski tracks.
