>>No one has gotten rich on account of hut work, many of them work voluntarily....<< I would link to this claim, which I rate as realistic, and continue from it. Maybe the problem is exactly there. I followed some tenders for keepers and when I calculated, nowhere did it work out that the keeper covers at least minimum wage with contributions. Without hiring extra help. We must ask how much someone's interest in customer satisfaction is if they work for peanuts, or someone who would get a normal wage so that their employment record runs etc. Therefore, my opinion is that the hut keeping policy in mountain huts is misguided. The state should take over the matter under its wing with some agreement via PZS. Instead of thousands of useless municipal clerks, a bunch of state organizations for stirring air and reinventing hot water, a small fraction of these costs would suffice for keepers' wages. With part of the funds returning to the state treasury, while some never-bother-with-them things never will and it's pure loss. If you as keeper slave away whole days just to pay some PD rent at the end of the month, that's real stupidity and no hero will care for guest satisfaction in the long term. Nothing but privatization and subtenant exploitation.

@Daam: everyone sees what they want to see. Whoever notices only complaints and whining and not also my praises, which are more numerous, then that's it. And ultimately, it all started with my PRAISE of the inn on Rožnik. Whoever wants to argue makes a špetir out of it.

Those know-it-alls and experts on all topics, I would put for one week in some hut where there is no car access, and let them take over all supply and service, with unpredictable weather, and then let's see a bunch of praises on his account....

@Becar: I would agree. Here everything is still so socialist and on a voluntary basis (GRS, path markers,...). Well, the last two services are still good considering that. If here someone has to be satisfied and honored to do something, instead of being fairly paid for it... then that's it. You can't live off satisfaction, prestige and the awareness that you've contributed something (to whom exactly). That's the reason why everything is better organized abroad.

Yeah, well that.. praise of the inn on Rožnik.. that's what I want to point out, that you can't compare an inn from Ljubljana with a hut that can only be supplied by helicopter or cableway.. where they probably collect rainwater just so that there's water in the toilet at all..

I already said: "Let's leave high mountain huts. Compare only with huts and lodges in mid-mountain (up to about 1500 m) to where some road leads." Sometimes I really feel like I'm writing in Chinese. I meant road passable at least by van. And anyway those lodges in low and mid-mountain are more problematic than higher huts (I know it's harder for staff there but they are still often quite ok), because they usually have good infrastructure and connections to the valley. The problem is that they are rented by various innkeepers and sole proprietors who behave there just like in the valley. All fine, just then it should be called 'inn', 'snack bar',... not 'mountain hut' And that in many inns in the middle of Ljubljana (actually in the city not on the hill above the city) they could learn from the one on Rožnik.

Van Sims, when I read your comments I laugh, you know what the proverb says: judge shoes, let the cobbler. Maybe you'd change your mind if you applied for a year as hut keeper! Try, there are quite a few calls every year and I wonder why?

We have gods in white, blue, in black robes,... But we obviously also have gods up there under the peaks? Whoever goes as a keeper must exactly know what awaits him. He must weigh if it's worth it or not and what benefit he'll have from it. Everyone goes there voluntarily too. I don't laugh at such mentality in our dear little country under the Alps, that everyone should be quiet and some are untouchable because of their position, function, profession or just so, and can't be criticized. We had such a system, it didn't work and we buried it 23 years ago. But I can laugh at ada's comment, which sounds like if I as e.g. car mechanic would tell someone not satisfied with my service to let the cobbler judge shoes and come repair cars with me and he'll change his mind.

van sims: better to bring positive energy and joy to the mountains instead of only criticism. Just this weekend I met on one of the huts a kindred soul to you, and a nice smile, van sims, maybe I'm wrong!

I don't know where you all get that Simon only complains. Well, yes he does, but to me most of his complaints seem justified. To give an example: In the topic about the hut at Okrešelj, vansims mentioned that their dog jumps on legs and everywhere and hangs on guests who didn't provoke it. Everyone piled on again saying why complain again, the puppy is just playful etc. Since I know what he's talking about, let me say it's not too pleasant when frozen, tired, hungry, thirsty, in whatever state you are (or none of that) to endure a dog hanging on you, barking at you.. Of course it depends on taste. If some like such pet behavior, for me they can do whatever, but don't kill those who don't like it. ..come on, pile on...

So I also decided to visit Smrekovec and see with my own eyes who this Fika is, about whom so much has been written everywhere . I noticed some questions on the forum, which I'm answering... Fika is still the keeper. I have nothing bad to comment, except that 1.80 EUR for tea seems a lot to me. Parmalajs, dinosaur eggs, dinosaur heart, wooden j.o.š.k.i etc... all that still exists . Otherwise the hut is very nicely arranged, as is the surroundings. Fika was completely OK with our group, we weren't subjected to any such outbursts as reported on these pages, but it's true that we aren't some provocateurs either. The stamp is something special, as it includes Fika's signature and date stamp. I noticed one nice gesture, namely Fika gave a little ice cream light to a small child at the next table, which isn't just anything or you rarely see it.

Hello, does anyone know if Mr. Beguš Franc is still the keeper of the hut on Ledine above Jezersko? Last year he prepared a wonderful day with a symphonic performance. Will there be something similar this year?

Hello! I'm curious about your impressions of the staff at Planika. We stayed there from Thursday to Friday, hut and rooms OK, but regarding the staff, girls at the bar very unfriendly and arrogant.
