Kamniško sedlo

Concerning above all is the attitude to safe movement in mountains, regardless of season and conditions. If in summer we're used to seeing on paths people without proper footwear, helmets, or other safety gear, it's quite surprising to see similar in winter. When you meet on fairly demanding terrain people without crampons and ice axe, that's simply tempting fate or accident. When snow whitens the peaks, it should mean ice axe and crampons must accompany us on tours. And not just that, one must use them. Know how to use them!

It doesn't seem very smart to me to ask on forums if ice axe and crampons are needed for goals above tree line and then make decisions based on individuals' statements that it wasn't needed two days ago. Is it really so burdensome to have those two kilograms of gear with you always when deciding for such ascents, even if the gear stays in the backpack the whole ascent?

Come on, don't argue, the topic is about mountains not politics nasmeh

Anyway, yesterday we were up there. Obviously doable without crampons, because some were without, I felt much safer with crampons. On some parts (especially between Repov kot junction and Pastirci) there is frequent hard ice, sometimes covered with powder... quite nasty for a slip. Higher up (above Pastirci) snowshoes better than crampons (at least yesterday morning), now I assume good track. Even higher (above Kamnica) hard again, icy snow at times, as powder blown to old base. That's about current conditions, safe steps!

From Jermanca there is a track to Klin. There we turned into Repov kot via the track. There is also a track to K. saddle, how far, others will comment. In Repov kot there were lots of spontaneous avalanches from S slopes of Planjava. Conditions from Wed, 22.02.2012!

Despite not the best forecast (temperature!) I headed to Kamnik Saddle today, as did some ~30 other hikers I met on the path or in the hut. Yes, nice day did its thing nasmeh

Start from in front of the Dom in Kamniška Bistrica at 8am, snow uphill was just right hard, no sinking; on return ~11am already slushy, sinking to knees. Sympathized with hikers going up after 10am...

Road to Jermanca I think drivable, lower marked path almost bare. I leave car in KB and walk extra 30-40 min saved by parking at Jermanca.

Hut open, weather super, spring temps, bit of wind. Great views around to KSA peaks and Logarska Dolina (frozen Rinka nice from saddle). Lots of people to Savinja Saddle. Oh, main heroes two guys with kids' sled shovels, slid down saddle to Pastirci - Kamnik Saddle Express nasmeh

Nice, sunny (downhill) wet trip! velik nasmeh

Yes, true - at 12h on the return it was really mush. I went back by road via Jermanca to KB to check the road. Some cars parked at Jermanca, some a bit before on the big meadow. Today obviously doable because really warm. Tomorrow temps drop, might be quite icy.

Not much different than last weekend, just a bit less snow nasmeh Up to Klin it was dry yesterday. In the afternoon water runs, better go a bit earlier.
This is how it looked yesterday, the path in the ključih is already visible :)1

Today a nice sunny day at Kamnik Saddle, in the morning conditions for hiking were good, on the return there was quite a bit of postholing. Quite a few visitors, hut open. Best regards.
