Just from the saddle! Disaster, completely rotten all the way to the top, in front of the winter room entrance a big puddle. On some parts, quite some wading to the knees or over was needed. From the tracks it was obvious that two went up on Sunday with snowshoes, and for down there were board tracks. Regards Jure - Cveto

Hi, has maybe someone of you gone towards the Saddle after the last snowfall? Tomorrow it could already be somewhat trodden...

The trail is trodden, in the morning the snow is firm, later it sinks in, you need to go at first light.

Yup, I agree with brankobr. We started at 9 a.m., snow was already pretty mushy, especially the downhill path was nasty when it sometimes sinks to the waist. Dangerous for "faceplant" falls Gaiters (and caution) recommended Otherwise, in the lower part in the forest on the path lots of ice slyly hidden under leaves, so careful especially downhill. We went off the path where possible, saw quite a few people slipping. Oh, at the top of the saddle around 11 a.m. pretty windy, otherwise sunny and nice. Some went to Brana, saw someone to Planjava.

We two started the trail only at 10 a.m., right decision. We had a wonderful warm and view-filled experience both ways. Many of us, five brave climbing the eastern pillar of Brana, the rest admired and photographed them from before the hut at K.s. Atmosphere gorgeous, return treacherous ice under leaves in the forest right below Pastirci. Regards, M&C

Is the hut in Kamniška Bistrica or at Kamniško sedlo open? If I go Saturday by bus to Kamniška Bistrica, no transport back till Sunday, wonder if I can overnight somewhere.

Hut in Kamniška Bistrica open Fri to Sun. Some bed for the night they'll let you have.

Easiest - go to the official site of the Alpine Association of Slovenia, find hut phone numbers and call the warden. Second - Mountaineering Club Kamnik, info on their huts. Reliable is the first, at least I do so. Think it's open in Kamniška Bistrica. LP!

In winter some huts have no regular keepers, but duty keepers as I'd say, individual members of certain mountaineering clubs. It was so last year at the saddle, same at Menina ... LP! p.s. I tried to attach links too, didn't work, obviously a settings problem.

In the hut from October renovation works are ongoing, which will be most extensive in spring. Otherwise it's open on weekends in good weather, the opening of the hut is always updated on their website www.društvo-pdkamnik.si, click home and a right window about both their huts opens. And when heading to Kam. Bistrica, a sign right at the house tells if it's open or not. LP

Today at Kamnik Saddle there weren't many visitors, but enough to make a good track. It was sunny, but very windy and cold. Newly fallen snow around 30 cm, which is quite blown on scree, on the path there are deposits of dry snow. The hut is open this weekend.

We'll make a crowd tomorrow Is the path icy or do we need crampons?

OK, OK, make a crowd! Crampons are mandatory winter gear that every smart hiker has with them. Then use them according to current conditions! Today some used them, others preferred to slip a bit on "that last"! How it will be tomorrow, you'll assess! Good luck and have a nice day!

And who happens to know what's with the road to Jermanca? Since this year in lowlands not much snow, maybe we come with car up. Thanks and nice regards.
