The hut was open today. There's snow on the path that balls up underfoot in the lower section. In the upper section there was great snow for crampon walking.

Road to Sviščaki is ok, on exposed parts a bit icy due to snow melt.
Path to Snežnik normal through forest, upper part below hut recommend crampons in morning.
Don't know about hut, nice weather almost 100% open
Bottom pics show chamois herd on Snežnik summit....regular visitor but first time seen them...southern summit grassy, below still lots of snow so they graze up there

That's right. At the top of Snežnik, the rain will already turn into snow.

Oh yes! In the end we got to Svišćaki, drank coffee and tea, chatted with the rescue service guys and finally gave up on Snežnik. On their recommendation we didn't go because there's strong wind and fog before the top and crampons are needed! So on the way back we went to Kozlak and it was great! Nice little hut and friendly staff.

The path from Sviščakov is icy in places, in places it sinks a bit, depending on the sun's strength, or the time of ascent/descent - read: in the morning it's more frozen, later the snow melts. But ice or frozen snow likes to persist in many places all day.
Even though the path is already bare in some places and in spring-like conditions on Snežnik, the equipment must be winter gear (ice axe, crampons!), as especially the last steep slope under the hut is often icy.

Conditions were still wintery yesterday. Strong bora wind was blowing with very strong gusts. The last slope under the hut wasn't icy and is normally passable. Yesterday Snežnik despite the bora experienced a real siege by all kinds of hikers.

The path is nicely passable. The last part of the path and part through the forest are snowy. There were really a lot of hikers on Sunday. The weather was great, so we weren't in a hurry to go back to the valley

More or less up-to-date list, with mobile numbers too, to check the actual status. Currently it says OSNP!
If you don't know the exact name, in the search Edit/Search/ type the root of the word e.g. Snežnik and it shows you the hut, bivouac, ...

Caretakers go up tomorrow late afternoon, so they'll be up around 19h - 20h.
Officially the hut ˝starts˝ on Saturday morning.

Hello.
I'm wondering if the road from Sviščaki towards Cerknica is still unpaved or what condition it's in now at the end of winter? Apparently not many signposts? Thanks for any info.
