I was in Yosemite national park last year. They have lots of bears there and people aren't afraid of them at all. I met one too when it crossed the walking path in front of me. Kids and families were walking carefree around and when I told one about the bear they said there are plenty around and they're not dangerous. Our bears are similar to American ones and I think there's no danger. An attack on a human without reason hasn't happened in Slovenia for many decades, if ever.

Really bear doesn't attack without reason. But I know a guy who played with bear cubs several times. Once the sow came back a bit early and grabbed that guy hard. The man is in a wheelchair and fully dependent on family. Lucky he stayed alive, but heavy invalid.
From classmate father forester used to forest and bear. Surprised him while sleeping among fallen trees. He wasn't lucky.
That's how it is in Notranjska. Bear has furry ears here and in America.
But we'll still go to Snežnik despite honey lovers

As usual from Gašper to Snežnik via hunting path. Quite cold, and north wind blew us the whole way but not too strong. Some visitors, even though hut closed. Views ok.

Snežnik today offered similar conditions as yesterday with one difference, strong gale was blowing. Hut still closed today, but quite some visitors. Road plowed and salted.

On Platku under Snežnik 10-15cm new after rain, on our side probably same, on top maybe a bit more...

Yes I ski, and Snežnik is special to my heart. Already last year I was sad because there was too little snow and I hope it won't repeat this year

Briefly about conditions from night hike 07.01.2012 (18:00-23:00). Road to Sviščaki nicely drivable. Path to Snežnik no problems (snow dry and normally walkable). No need for gaiters. Last 10 min slightly frozen (walkable without crampons), fairly strong wind blowing (only last 5 min). Hut open, full of visitors, jota and struklji excellent. Wardens friendly. Unforgettable night with almost full moon (sufficient visibility without headlamp).

Today ascent to Snežnik. To Sviščaki gravel iced but gritted. OK.
Path to Snežnik real highway, snow frozen, microspikes more than recommended.
On top relatively strong wind and nice views. Sea still where it was, Julian Alps, Karavanke and KSA too.
