It's white....how much...don't know, was planning to climb up for the weekend but gale was raging. But about three weeks ago already skied down, only from the turning point. Up top a bit too crusty for my tastenasmeh

What's up guys, without women it won't work?
Okmodko so you don't go bankrupt I called the caretaker; you can drive to Sviščaki, ahead the path is nicely trodden, don't forget crampons without them crisis, hut open Saturdays and Sundays.
Safe step and best regards.

Snežnik showed itself today in all its February beauty. Initially still cold, after twelve pleasantly warm, no wind, almost perfect views from sea and Učka to Julians and Grintovec, and all those hills, hillocks and knolls in between. To Sviščaki road passable no problems. Snow just enough for pleasant hike, due to slickness crampons recommended upper part. Path along road a bit less trodden, hut open and friendly. Since today day for trip with friends time unimportant, but could take loooooots of photosvelik nasmeh If interested in signpost, steepness, timetable, shoe, ... just say, plenty of everything.
One reaches the starting point without issues. At least today.1
They lit this regardless of the cold more than necessary, I reckon. :(2
Still winter.3
Summit and hut just below it, closer than it seems.4
Anything to write about the fog? No wind either, probably more likely?5
Where else to go? :)6
Winter room. Looks just like it, right?7

The sea, our Adriatic, was also visible!10
Summit. Steber didn't complain at all that he is cold.11
And some more fun for sledders, shovelers, hole-diggers, and similar types on Sviščaki12

I was there on Sunday, 19.02. Road to Sviščaki drivable without issues with winter tires, a bit icy but passable. Sunday afternoon it started snowing heavily, but for the weekend it'll be fine, for sure. Hut below summit open. Regards

I was at Snežnik yesterday nasmeh
Road to Sviščaki is normally drivable. Still a bit snowy but no problem. With this abnormal heat it'll probably melt quite a bit more.
Yesterday surprisingly nice ski descent from top to parking. Plenty of snow, completely south-facing. Only at top drier. Soon only for hikers/snowshoers (oh - track ok).

On Saturday about 50cm rotten snow in Leskova valley. Went to Snežnik from Leskova valley via Pekel to small Snežnik then to big Snežnik. Debris covered where drifted. It was barely possible to ski but need to know terrain well. Hiking about 5 hrs. Now almost certainly no decent skiing possible.

Today quite a few hikers on Snežnik. Morning snow almost frozen, icy in places, small crampons recommended. No bears or at least bear tracks in snow, even with best will none were noticed mežikanje
At top blowing twice as strong as at hut. Must praise hut crew, such homely, clean and friendly atmosphere not everywhere.

Has anyone driven to Sviščaki in last days? Interested in road conditions. Possible to get to hut without chains?

No chains needed, road almost dry, gritted...
Last Sunday I was up. For descent took parallel footpath less crowded and walking much harder than usual one, sinking in...

Today to Snežnik from Leskova valley, as road ahead not drivable (ice on road). Some snow left, plenty in forest. Went ski touring route, followed one on snowshoes and probably @pz on skis. Both there at least 10 days ago. Snow held my weight, though some issues above treeline, snow before last north slope doesn't cover dwarf pines (no idea how skiable there). North slope via left side or fairly direct. North wall frozen, icy, crampons essential.
Hike from Leskova to top 2h45 if really pushing, descent much less.
Still winter nasmeh

Among several choices where to go for holidays, decision falls, we're going to Snežnik and forget that many people have same plans, only they go towards sea for holidays. Already on Ljubljana bypass we run into first traffic accident and then second and then third and drive drags on for several hours, but at one we finally head towards top and it wasn't in vain. Trail starts at Dom na Sviščakih. Trail is dry, weather summer-like as if it wasn't cold few days ago. Only here and there still remnants of snow reminding us that winter was. Views and weather fantastic, atmosphere in hut same.....

What do you do when a fifteen-year-old has "urgent errands" in Vrhnika on such a nice Sunday and nicely asks you to pick her up at three in the afternoon jezen, and the others want to go somewhere? Well nothing, right, you turn on "garmin" (in your head) and after one third "recalculating" mežikanje the choice is clear...somewhere towards the coast, so we'll pick her up on the way back...

Younger daughter has long wanted to go back to Snežnik (years ago we were up there in the worst possible weather - fog you could cut with knife - almost crashed into the hutzadrega - and gale force wind) - so we went....Today it was a bit better....even sun warmed us, views so-so...well, we still saw the sea mežikanjenasmeh, very windy, but still not enough to clear the mists completely, huge crowds, in the hut such a hustle that we didn't even enter, but found shelter outside and enjoyed...

In the end we all concluded we spent a nice day, all satisfied... It must be true that making compromises is some kind of "art"....once you master it, you've won and "life" is no longer complicated at all mežikanjenasmeh

P.S. We'll go to Snežnik again...third time's the charm....then it'll be "perfect" mežikanjenasmeh
View towards the summit...1
Boulder by the path... the summit again in fog... nothing promising...2
Wow, it is high...3
Autumn is coming among the dwarf pines... 4
Snežnik was also snow-covered a few days ago... this is how much remains... 5
View of the hut from the summit...6
Vetrnica is always interesting... with today's views only partially useful... :-)7
Well, we did see the sea after all :-)))8
Interesting snapshot on the way back... let your imagination run free :-) - we noticed halfway a guy leaning on the backrest, chatting with a frog...?? :-)))9
Look back - as we were leaving, it started clearing above the summit...10
The beech forest is still entirely green...11
...here and there in the crowns you can see that autumn is coming after all... :-)12
