Has anyone walked from Mašun to Snežnik, if so what's the path like? lp

How is it with snow and is the hut open?

No snow for a good three weeks now (except some patches in bigger holes!), even what fell during the 24., 25. and 26. May weekend (cca 25cm at the top) was cleared last week, so approach possible from all sides. Path from Mašun is fine, just a bit careful with markings as they are somewhat less visible in places. Hut open every Sat and Sun, and all holidays from 1 May until end of October. August open every day whole month.

Hello, I'm interested in a trip on the Sežanje - Snežnik path (described on the website), but I'd like to return on the path leading to the mountain hut at Sviščaki.
Where do I need to go to get back to the starting point of the Sežanje - Snežnik path, where I'd park the car?

@repolarizacija if you carefully read the Sežanje-Snežnik path you see access option to Sežanje also from Sviščaki namely by road, how many km I don't know. So circular path possible, just a few km gravel road waiting at the end, which isn't most pleasant.nasmeh

I already figured it out myself, but those last kilometers to Sežanje worry me, so I was interested if maybe there's some shortcut.
Well thanks anyway. nasmeh

@repolarizacija: Of course there is a shortcut, but I advise against it, as you have to know it well, since it is not marked at all.
It is not very frequented, and it even goes past a bear carcass (10m).
I recommend you arrange with some local if you know one, to take you from Sviščaki to Sežana... or call the hut at Sviščaki and ask the caretaker's husband - he knows the roads in the Snežnik forests well and maybe, if he agrees...

On Saturday from Sviščaki to Big Snežnik. There were lots of us at the top. Shame that almost nobody returns back over Little Snežnikjezen, which is a big pleasure for me as I make a loop trailvelik nasmeh. Praise to PD Ilirska Bistrica for the freshly maintained path through the scree over Little Snežnik. nasmeh

Yesterday as part of the mountaineering club we did a school trip from Sviščaki to Big Snežnik.
More than 70 of us headed to the top, where fog and wind awaited usmrk pogled, so unfortunately no views. Everyone to the hut for hot tea and then back down, for a moment even the sun took pity on usnasmeh, but then it quickly hid againzavijanje z očmi.

This Saturday 14.12.13 I would go to Snežnik, but not alone. Does anyone want to join? Start from Maribor, if the car fills up, it's worth it. Weather forecast is more than excellent for this time of year.nasmeh

Yesterday's Snežnik was especially magical in the setting sun and shining moon.

The path was nicely trodden and even in the second half of the day mostly firm, in the lower part also frozen, but in the upper part of the path the snow softened towards the end of the day. Crampons, with which all the locals were equipped, came in handy, especially on the descent by moonlight.

The road was dry. Noticeable snow cover started just before Sviščaki. Further to the chapel the road was mostly icy, but that didn't stop numerous cars parked there.
Pleasant path through the forest.1

Nice greeting. This time at the other end of Slovenia. Due to dangerous conditions in the high mountains, I headed to the Primorska Trigi mežikanje. Conditions on the path are ideal, except just below the summit there is some snow. cool

AND WHO KNOWS WHAT THE CONDITIONS ON SNEŽNIK ARE? THANKS. I WISH ALL TOGETHER A LUCKY AND SAFE PATH IN THE NEW YEAR

marco31. 12. 2013 11:51:02
The path is only locally snowy (up to 15-20 cm drifted), as the bora and rain before it did their job.
So you can expect a bit of everything - snow, bare ground, some ice and even mud...
But today around 11am it was foggy, or low clouds.
The hut will be open today and tomorrow.

Happy holidays to all 'Hribinetouci', and safe steps in the coming year.
