As a mountaineer or hiker with long-term experience, the SNOWSHOES you used on the mentioned path bothered me, WHY!!! Snow that is settled, compact and OLD does not sink deep, you do not need SNOWSHOES for it!!! The path you walked is mostly not demanding except on the descent towards Potočka Zijalka, where in such conditions you need ICE AXE and CRAMPONS. Why did I join this debate! In this forum I notice one thing, that people without experience participate in it and based on photos and articles judge how certain tours can be done. In the forum and on the path I meet words and people who are equipped with microspikes..........ETC. Don't misunderstand me wrong but well-meaning, that paths in winter conditions are much more demanding and therefore use winter gear ICE AXE CRAMPONS HELMET, I won't list the other things. AND SAFE AND PLEASANT STEP IN THE MOUNTAINS HU HU HU!!!!! ]]>

Do you know this type of snowshoes, 438 TSL OUTDOOR? Overall, there are probably more than ten types of snowshoes. We use two pairs. Some for easier terrain with more fresh snow and others with adjustable heel for going uphill or downhill. They also serve well on hard ground, like crampons. I know Olševa well from previous winters, so I already know where the harder spots are, wind has its permanent paths (regarding drifts) so without snowshoes or skis in winter time I don't go. Of course, we have all other winter gear with us (including poles, if needed). I'm not the person who asks others what I need, what the road is like... I always take the things I will need on the planned tour. Heavy backpack is also good for training. On what basis do you conclude that we walked around Potočka zijalka? No, that direction doesn't interest me currently. We were on a scouting tour Olševa Bukovnik. On descent, if you had been there, you could have measured the depth of our footprints and those of the people who walked behind us without snowshoes. Then your questions would be different. Snowshoes or skis are my regular companion in winter time, sometimes they are just in the backpack. The ground in nature changes quickly, despite weather forecasts and guessing of people from afar (couch) who observe the mountains and advise. For the end, your sentence is already written. Well, nice regards ,:]]>

First thanks to Janezs (for the track) and Misantrof (road really gritted). Olševa today bathed in sun and no wind, in short ideal. As for the debate about equipment up there, today no equipment was needed, just will and a bit of fitness, everything else is bullshit.

Nice, Janez. Also for the direction sign. Thanks. Hard to understand that it was in someone's way. At the end of summer once I accidentally found it, twisted in the bushes, behind the table and benches. I didn't have any tools and put it back on the post there by the logging trail where it was attached. It just waited for the "right one". Regards, Peter

14.02.2012 Today we drove to the lower ridge. The Koprivna-Bukovnik road is well maintained. So that we wouldn't freeze too much, we quickly prepared for a new adventure. Already quite soon on the road to the upper ridge we encountered large drifts. Later in the forest, the conditions for walking are already better. Higher up we had to stick to the old track under the new snow cover. It's not always easy, so we sank deeply. Towards Lepi vrh we went more on the ridge side, as we were looking for better passages. The access to Gladki vrh is quite demanding since there is a lot of new windblown snow. At one spot it collapsed almost to my shoulders. I think there is a small cavity below, as this spot is always bare first; today there was a nicely ice-formed igloo. Towards Vodenčni vrh the walking is quite tolerable, as this part is quite windblown. The most windblown snow is on the south slope. In Mrzla dol we just looked. It starts steeply upwards through windblown snow; already here we saw that the summit would be questionable today. We continued less than 100 meters, but the steep, smooth and windblown slope stopped us. The path's course is no longer visible. That doesn't worry me much as I know it. I take off the snowshoes, probing with my feet under the snow for the path so as not to go too high or too low; the windblown snow is around 70 cm. We turned around. I had a hard time accepting the defeat, so I tried a few meters once more and quickly gave up. Since we didn't get a ride, our semicircular tour towards Kumra also failed. So we returned the same way. During the descent we noticed tracks of at least two hikers who had turned around at Gladki vrh. Later we caught up to them and exchanged a few words. Now let the pictures say more about it. I hope I wrote the peak names correctly. Regards

Nice photos, Olševa - mountain that lures me at least three times a year, beautiful in all seasons, in May recognizable from afar by spring heather. Regards!

22.02.2012. Today we drove to the lower ridge, our goal was Olševa, then on to Kumra. After our last visit, wind and new snow had well erased the track. But we re-tracked it anew, yet we still didn't reach the top today. Below Govca, the south slope is thick with windblown snow, which the sun is now diligently melting, and the steepness carries it into the valley. At the same spot as last time, we turned around. Today we descended through Mrzla dol; the first steep part is still in shade, so still dry snow. Towards the hunting hut, on the path the sun already shines here and there. To the summer parking lot, we continued with a lower heart rate. Towards Kumra, suddenly with plenty of snow, our step slowed. Regards.

I hiked to Olševa from Ošovnik, from Rogar, from Slemen and don't remember that Fosnerče bivouac. I assume it's the path St. Ana-Slemen-Govca. Wondering if it's marked from St. Ana. Thanks.

One path leads from Luz, another from Pece near Kumr where they join. Then it goes along the road above St. Ana past Repije, there's a nice weekend house there, well provided for tired hikers. Nice road leads to a larger stream. There are also side branches, but we don't use them. From here the road is less graveled and more overgrown with grass, soon even this road ends. Then a trail continues, which is cleared and marked, very narrow in two places; this trail leads to the upper meadows-pastures. To get here by car, you need to turn at Lipold (on the same road Crna-Koprivna). Left and keep the right direction to the last meadows, where there's parking. That's roughly it, there are precise route descriptions. The Kumer-Olševa path is well marked, I checked yesterday.
